BEHIND THE QUILT
HOUSE STYLE
“One of my all-time favourite blocks in patchwork is the House block. I have made several quilts using it in all sorts of sizes and I’ve also incorporated it into a few workshops I have taught. There’s no getting away from the fact that the block is made of several pieces and although it can be made using some fast techniques, I wanted to come up with a way that helped take a little of the sting out of the process.
“So here it is in our extra special 100th issue, a full set of House block rulers for you to make as many blocks as you like! I’ve teamed it up with the Cornerstone Courthouse Steps block, which seems a highly appropriate bedfellow for the House block. With its secondary pattern running diagonally across the quilt, it’s a perfect block to show the houses off. Pull out your scraps, strips, leftovers or metreage and rotary cut each shape using this wonderful set of rulers. Why not make a block or build a village? Trust me, it’s addictive!” – Paula Hope
