Lighten the load

Most ski lifts transport people only up the mountain. My friend relayed this to me when I was already on a lift, having strapped on skis for the first time 20 minutes prior. Once I realised the only way back down was to ski, panic set in.

I was headed to a resort’s mountain-top restaurant with three mates – all competent skiers who’d grown up venturing to snowy destinations. They knew I planned on taking a lesson at the mountain’s base after we ate, but they were unfazed about my being unable get there. The meal, I’d learnt, took priority.
