Seven years ago, as a stressed, sleep-deprived junior doctor working his 12th consecutive day, Dr Rupy Aujla started having heart palpitations. ‘Within an hour I had gone from doctor to patient and was admitted to the acute medical ward with atrial fibrillation (AF) – a condition where your heart beats irregularly, inefficiently and, in my case, at 200 BPM.’ This was the first episode of many over the following two years for Rupy, and the beginning of a big shift in both his personal and professional life.
