Helen James Series

This is the first story about the adventures undertaken by 7 year old Helen James. Far across space the ‘Visitants’ are patrolling the universe searching out Galaxies, Star Systems or Planets that are on the verge of destruction. The ‘Visitants’ are a blue haze and they are not able to intervene and put things right but they have recruited 5 ‘Goods’, from across the universe. Each of the ‘Goods’ has a unique goodness and this enables them to put things right. When the needs be the ‘Visitants’ send one of their family to collect the most suitable ‘Good’ for this task. Unlike the ‘Visitants’ who live for ever, the ‘Goods’ live only for as long as is the norm for their home planet and when, after 200 years, Tyred, their most experienced ‘Good’ passed away they needed to find a replacement. A search of the whole universe was carried out by 4 of the experienced ‘Visitants’ who brought back a list each with 6 names. From these 24 names only three names were brought forward to the selection panel - Josp from the Whirlwind Galaxy, Veist from the Malin Galaxy and the youngest of them all, 7 year old Helen James from planet Earth, in the Milky Way Galaxy. Helen had no idea that the future of her life was being decided far across the universe. It was only as she was sitting on the naughty step that she discovered her life was changing. Hyming, the ‘Visitant’ assigned to transport Helen, wrapped himself around her and before she knew what was happening he had taken her out of her house, up into the sky and streaking across the Milky Way. In seconds the Milky Way was far behind them. Helens biggest concern was not where she was being taken but that she would be in even bigger trouble if her mother discovered she was not sat on the naughty step. Hyming reassured Helen that he would have her back on the step before that happened. Hyming returned to ‘The Visitants’ home cloud and presented Helen to Zacred, their leader and his father. It was now that Helen was told why she was there. The problem in the Yunkery Star System was that the Yunkery Alliance were organising the bullying of one of the planets in the star system. Before an all out war started Helen had to stop the bullies and save millions of lives. Hyming would take Helen wherever she needed to go and once she was there he would leave a thin film of himself around Helen. This allowed Helen to not only communicate with the beings she encountered but it protected her from their environment. To Helen bullies are bullies. If you weaken their support and make those being bullied stronger you have your solution. The only trouble was that it may work in her classroom but across a Star System was a different matter. When Helen arrived back home and Hyming placed her back on the Naughty Step, she had been away for less than a minute.

It was a fine autumn day and Helen James was happy. Due to her last adventure to the Cytadul Galaxy with the ‘Visitants’, the Universe was intact. Today her year at school was going on a field trip to Beachy Head. Helen always enjoyed school trips and had enjoyed her picnics on Beachy Head with her parents, before her father was killed in a car accident some years ago. With her best friend Joan, they had devised a way in which they could get off the school coach first and race up to the edge of the cliff, so they could take photos of the Lighthouse, some 600 feet below. All was going well with Joan was taking a photo of Helen and the Lighthouse when a gust of wind overbalanced Helen. As she transferred her weight to her right leg the ground under her foot gave way and she toppled over the cliff. As Helen she started to fall towards the base of the cliff some 600 feet below she called out for “Hyming”. Why she should expect him to be close by she had no idea but the next thing she knew she was being engulfed by the blue haze of Hyming and lifted up into the sky and away. This was not a rescue for she was needed at the Lambret Galaxy she was on her third adventure as a ‘Good’. Helen was being taken to the planet Chrilren in the Ewetert star system. No young had been born on this planet for the last 10 years and soon the mothers would not be able to bring any young to life. Without young the planet would die. Helen protested to Zacred, the ‘Visitants’ leader, that she was to young to be able to help and she did not understand these things but he insisted that as she was a ‘Good’ she could do it. There were 3 separate beings on this planet, the mothers, the farmers and the builders. To produce young the builders had to meet with the mothers and then, 2 weeks later the farmers had to meet with them. The mothers would go into a trance and think of the young they were going to produce, some time later that young would be produced. The problem was that under the instructions of the mothers leaders, no young farmers were being born so the farmers had refused to participate in the process of producing the young for the planet. Helens task was to get the 3 different beings to realise the problem they were causing and the effects to their planet if they did not change their ways. When Helen left Chrilren, she felt she had failed not only them but she soon had her own problems. Hyming always left Helen where he had found here. Today that was at the start of her 600 foot drop from the top of the cliffs at Beachy Head, to the beach below. Just in time Helen realised what he was about to do and asked him to place her on the beach. Now what was she to do?

This is the second story of Helen James adventures across the universe for Helen is a ‘Good’. It had been six months since her first contact with the ‘Visitants’ and she was beginning to doubt if her trip to the Yunkery Star System had really happened. It was days like today that Helen wished she was back with the ‘Visitants’. It had been a hard day at school, it was exam time and tonight she would have to revise for the exams tomorrow. Helen and her best friend Joan caught the bus home but Helen got off two stops before Joan. As they neared Helen’s stop, she headed towards the stairs. At the top step Helen waved goodbye to Joan. Helen started down the stairs ready to get off the bus. All of a sudden Helen was surrounded by a blue haze. Hyming had returned for her. How he got her out of the bus while it was still moving and the door were closed, she had no idea but before she realised what was happening she was streaking across the Milky Way. Within seconds they were on the far side of the Universe at the Cytadul Galaxy and headed towards the Ritepryde Star System. The three inhabited planets were in dispute about the meaning of ‘Peace’. How can there be more than one ‘Peace’? Helen was to find out that, like many words, Peace has many meanings and it depends on your interpretation what it actually means to you. While Helen was worrying about getting back to her school bus before it reached her stop, it suddenly came to her that unless she solved this problem there would be no bus, no home and no Earth for her to return to. She had to solve this dispute before the Universe was destroyed as one of the planets held the universe in place. If it was destroyed every galaxy and star system would be dragged into the void that this planet would leave.

Helen James is on her way home on the school bus. As she descends the stairs a blue haze wraps itself around her and takes her out of the bus and up away across the universe. It was not the Visitants Hyming but his younger sister Pyling who had come to collect Helen. Pyling told her that Zacred, their leader, had cast Hyming and some of his friends out of the Visitants’ home cloud. It appeared that Zacred feared that Hyming was trying to take over the leadership. It started when Helen was voted in as the 5th ‘Good’, against Zacred’s wishes. It was Helen’s task to mend this broken relationship or the Visitants would cease to function. Pyling should not have come all this way but no one else would. Towards the end of their journey to the cloud Pyling was having difficulty in protecting Helen which made Helen realise that there might be an empty place in class tomorrow. Helen spotted the cloud and steered Pyling to it but only just in time. Could Helen get 2 headstrong beings to realise that they needed each other and that there was a place for both of them. They tried to trick Helen into believing that they could work together. It might have worked except one of the elders whispered in Helen's ear.

It was a hot day at school and Helen James had made sure that she drank sufficient water only she went over the top. During the lesson after lunch she asked to go to the toilet. On her way to the girls’ toilets she is engulfed by Hyming and spirited out of the school and across the universe to the Uklet Galaxy and the planet Drogan. She was not to know but 2 other ‘Goods’ had all ready visited the planet Drogan but could not find the reason for the beings dying. Zacred would not call on Helen but his wife sanctioned Hyming collecting her but they would hide her form Zacred. It took Helen a short while to discover the cause. The other inhabited planet in this star system, Flym had destroyed all the trees on their planet that produced the Oxygn which was the life blood of both Flym and Drogan. Unbeknown to the Drogans the Flym's had devised a way to take the Oxygn they needed from Drogan. Helen was now in a quandary. If she stopped Flym taking the Oxygn from Drogan they would die but if she didn't then the Drogans would die.

Helen James is riding home from school on her new bicycle with 3 friends, at the first roundabout they each go their separate way. Helen is heading for the last exit but before she reaches it a large van with the driver busy on his mobile phone enters the roundabout and crashes into Helen, even though she was wearing a High Visibility jacket. As she is thrown into the air she calls out "Hyming". How she really expects him to be there she didn't know but before she came crashing down in front of a car she is taken up into the sky, across the Milky Way and far, far away to the Imkoo galaxy. Unlike on Earth, where there are many banks, this galaxy has only one bank and one currency. The bankers had got greedy and this was causing a financial meltdown. Helen knows how to look after her pocket money and how to earn extra by doing odd jobs for her mother or their neighbours but the banking systems are beyond her knowledge but the Visitants leader, Zacred said that as she was a 'Good' she would be able to sort out the problem. With Hyming wrapped around her Helen visited the Bankers and many planets. With just a thin film of Hyming around her it protected her from the environment and enabled her to communicate with the various beings she encountered. If Helen could not bring the banking system back many of the star systems and planets would perish.

Helen James no longer believed in the existence of Father Christmas but she had kept him alive for her 4 year old nephew Kenneth. Today they were going to the Bulverhythe shopping centre to visit 'Father Christmas'. Kenneth asked that Helen take him in to see Father Christmas whilst his mother and Nan went shopping. As they walked through the tunnel towards the grotto Kenneth broke away from Helens grip and ran ahead. At the same time Hyming, the Visitant, wrapped himself around Helen and took her out of the tunnel and the shopping centre. Within seconds Helen and Hyming had left the Milky Way and were heading off across the universe towards the Prsnt galaxy but they couldn't enter the Galaxy without the authority of the Helvs who guarded the Galaxy and Father Christmas. Once Helen had been allowed to enter the Galaxy Hyming took her to see Father Christmas on the planet Lapand. Father Christmas was now very old and could no longer visit all the planets, such as Earth and Chrilren. It was Helens job to help get Father Christmas and get him visiting and handing out the presents again before all the children across the universe were disappointed. It was now that Helen discovered that much of the folklore she had read about Father Christmas and his helpers was fact not fiction but fact. If Helen couldn't fix this problem what would she tell Kenneth when she returns to Earth?

The Visitants have lost one of their 5 'Goods' and need Jawake urgently as millions of lives are at stake if he can not be found. Zacred sent out many Visitants from their home cloud to no avail. It was decided that they would have to send for Helen James to see if she could find him. Weting takes Helen to Jawake's planet Yungr so that she can begin her search. Jawake was last seen in the market place so Helen has a starting point. Unlike markets on Earth this market only sold weapons of many descriptions but mainly swords and the like. It was at one of these swords that Helen was given 'The Ruby Sword' by Luker, the stall holder as a payment for finding his friend Jawake. It was not until later that Helen discovered that the sword had magical powers. It appears that Jawake had ben arrested and taken to the planets most secure prison - YongHul. On her way to the prison to secure Jawake's release she meets up with Druken who offers to show her the way. Can Helen secure Jawake's freedom or will the lives of the far off planet be lost? It is then that Helen first realises the power of the Ruby Sword.

This was Helen James first day at the Church-in-the-Woods Academy. The last thing she wanted was to be needed by the Visitants to solve some problem that they had discovered in the universe so when Hyming wrapped himself around her she objected to going. He said it was important so she agreed provided he did something for her, put 2 boys, who were bullying her, up on the school roof. As they neared their destination, on the far side of the universe, Helen was confused as there was no sign of a galaxy, star system or planet. The Visitants home cloud was tracking what looked like a lump of ice. In fact it was a space ship but something was wrong and they needed Helen to find out what had happened. Because, once the visitants had left a thin film of themselves around Helen she was able to live in what ever environment she was taken to and could communicate with the beings she was here to help. This made it easier for Helen as she was able to understand the controls off the space ship. With the help of the Visitants children Helen was able to discover what had happened and could turn the ship around and send it back home. What surprised Helen was that the space ship had originated from a planet within the Milky Way.
