Description

On June 5th, 1981, hospitals in Los Angeles, California, began to notice an alarming trend of patients developing pneumocystis pneumonia. At the time, medical experts were puzzled by what was causing these severe symptoms. By 1982 the Center for Disease Control (CDC) finally identified the cause of the deadly disease that had become prominent among the LGBTQ+ community and drug abusers, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, also known as AIDs. However, as the birth of HIV studies began, so did the cognitive virus of HIV/AIDs denialism that would cost the lives of people infected with HIV and the people promoting these ideas. In today's episode, Nelson revisits the history of the HIV/AIDs denialism movement, assesses some of the conspiratorial fallacies, and debunks Peter Duesberg's claims who has sacrificed his academic integrity to protect his ego.
