I do this all the time when I need to quickly delete several messages at a time. Jeff’s iPhone Camera Tip: Multiple ways to take a quick picture!On the lock screen, swipe to the left.On the lock screen, long press on the camera icon at the bottom right. Go to Settings -> Control Center -> Camera.  Make sure the camera is in Included Controls and drag it up or down for placement so you can access it from any app. Back Tap - Use the Shortcuts app to create a two-step shortcut:  CAMERA: Take 1 photo with Back Camera / Save Photo to Recents … or … Go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch -> [scroll to bottom] Back Tap -> [select double or triple tap] -> Shortcuts [name of your shortcut]One word of caution - just be aware of giving access to the camera of your iPhone from the lock screen.
