Description
Here is a sneak peak of my schedule as a Dad in medical school during the pre-clinical years. This will vary depending on if your spouse works, how you divide labor, etc., but principles are similar. My schedule looked something like this:
6AM: Arise
7 - 8AM: Bike to school and start studying
8AM - 10AMish: Anki (reviews, then new cards)
10AM - 5PM: New Material including new slides, new lectures, new third party material, etc. Unsuspend Anki cards as I go.
5 - 5:30PM: Bike home
5:30 - 7PM: Hang out with wife and kiddos.
7PM: Kids go to bed
7 - 9:30PM: Hang out with wife, or possibly study more. If I focused throughout the day, I could usually just hang out with my wife, unless I had a big test.
10PM: Bedtime
Now, I didn't always follow this schedule. I'd say most of the time I did, but I was flexible when things had to change, say I shadowed a doctor for a day, or we had some in person events in the middle of the day, or my family was in town, etc. Flexibility is also important.
The best mentors are real life mentors. Find many and keep in touch with them. They will be your greatest resource throughout your journey in medicine. That being said, please reach out with questions or comments that I can add to the podcast episodes. I also offer mock interviews, application reviews, etc. Send me an email for more details.
