Description

Go big or go home… this is an in depth look at a rising trend in the healthcare workforce.  What do you know about healthcare unions? Do you think of pickets and healthcare providers demanding more money? Did you even know they existed? With the continuous corporatization of American healthcare, physicians have been losing their voice, power and have not figured out a successful way to keep their power in advocating for the patients best interest. As I have often told patients, I feel like I have as much power as the Walmart checker does in their corporation.  Our guest today is Joe Crane. A longtime member of the labor movement and union organizer of nearly two decades, he helps doctors reclaim their profession as the Doctors Council's National Organizing Director. Joe has been working with and organizing doctors for over four years. Most notably, he successfully negotiated several physician collective bargaining agreements and took a group of physicians on the picket line in Washington state's first ever physician strike. The Doctors Council is the country's oldest and largest union of attending physicians. With members spanning four states and both public and private sector workplaces, the Doctors Council is proud to be a united voice for doctors, their patients, and the communities they serve. It’s time to take back the medical profession and revamp healthcare, putting the patient’s best interest first.  While we are not suggesting unions are THE single answer, it certainly looks like a positive piece of the puzzle to making our voices heard.
