Description
Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 53 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 23 November 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby league: Michael Maguire will stay on as Head Coach of the New Zealand Kiwis after a disgruntled group of ex-players pushed for his sacking, saying that he wouldn’t be able to juggle two roles – Kiwis Coach and NSW Blues Coach, claiming also that his involvement in State of Origin would benefit the Kangaroos. However, the New Zealand Rugby League Board decided against his sacking with the playing group also backing the former Wests Tigers Coach. Maguire only had to point to the recent Pacific Championships where his Kiwis smashed Mal Meninga’s Kangaroos 30-0 in the final in one of their best performances in recent years. In SportsBiz: The ICC Cricket World Cup won a few days ago by Australia in India, drew a record attendance of 1.25 million fans, surpassing the prior mark of 1.02 million set for the 2015 event in Australia/New Zealand and smashing the 752,000 who attended the England/Wales tournament in 2019. Disney’s Hotstar topped 59 million concurrent viewers for the tournament final in which Australia upset the host nation India. The figure set a new record for global on-demand video streaming - a whopping 24 million more viewers than the prior streaming record set just last month. In combat sports: Nikita Tszyu has been crowned the Australian Super Welterweight Champion, after defeating the experienced Dylan Biggs in Newcastle last night. Tszyu was sensationally dropped in the first round, but he recovered well and landed several strong blows to close out the round. In the fourth, Biggs took a beating and left commentators baffled as to how he stayed on his feet and survived the round. But Biggs couldn’t match ‘The Butcher’ and hit the canvas in the fifth before his team threw in the towel to hand Tszyu the belt. Finally in Rugby Union: Recently retired or shoved-out-the-door Wallabies Head Coach, Eddie Jones has ruled out coaching Wales, Ireland or Scotland. So, what about sunny Fiji? We thinks Fast Eddie would produce magic with the Flying Fijians with his sharp rugby mind and big Bula smile! Go Fiji Go Eddie Go! And that’s a wrap!
