Description

Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 06 Episode 66 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a bright and sunny Sunday morning 10 September 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. And at the Rugby World Cup 2023 - results so far:A France 27-13 New Zealand A Italy 52-8 Namibia B Ireland 82-8 Romania C Australia 35-15 Georgia D England 27-10 Argentina Tonight at 11PM Japan vs Chile plus at 3:45AM South Africa vs Scotland and the last game of this weekend, tomorrow morning at 7AM in Pool C it’s Wales vs Fiji in Bordeaux. And in Background Buzz this morning, I dive into the Wales vs Fiji match in detail so stick around until the end of this podcast. In rugby league: The Roosters finned the Sharks 12-13 in their elimination final at Shark Park last night, ending their season in stunning fashion after Sam Walker booted the match-winning field goal in the 74th minute. And in the dying minutes, Roosters skipper James Tedesco and Luke Keary charged down two field goal attempts from Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes, to stop the game from going to golden point. While out at Penrith, the Panthers cruised into their fourth straight preliminary final after they dispatched the NZ Warriors 6-32 yesterday afternoon, thanks to another masterclass from the usual suspects - Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards and Brian To’o as the reigning premiers missed just 14 tackles in the whole game. In Football: Socceroos star Craig Goodwin will return to Saudi Arabian Club Al-Wahda in a “life-changing” transfer deal set to secure Adelaide United more than A$1Million. Among the stars in the lucrative Saudi Pro League now are Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema and Riyad Mahrez. In the FIBA Basketball World Cup semifinals in Manila: Serbia beat Canada 86-95 and Germany upset the USA 111-113 So it’s Germany versus Serbia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup final showdown! The US were looking to atone for their seventh-place finish at the tournament in China four years ago but they lost to an inspired German team. In Combat sports: One hundred and fifteen years ago this December, Australia gave American boxing legend Jack Johnson a chance to create history in Sydney – a chance all black men were denied in America, only because of the colour of their skin - to win the world heavyweight boxing title. And Johnson did, from Canadian Tommy Burns, in front of 20,000 fans at Rushcutters Bay. A moment which made history and effectively changed the boxing landscape for black boxers following him, like Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. Johnson changed it too for UFC Middleweight Champion, Israel Adesanya, “Because,” as the champ says, “Jack Johnson never gave a f...”. UFC megastar, Israel Adesanya takes on American challenger, Sean Strickland in UFC293 later today at a sold out Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. OK so in background Buzz this morning, I dive into the Fiji versus Wales Test coming up tomorrow morning. This after Australia beat Georgia 15-35 in Paris this morning. So Wales have notched up ten wins and a draw since the first official international between the two sides in 1985. It puts Wales in the driver’s seat for the win tomorrow morning. They haven’t played each other since November 2021 - a match Wales won 38-23 in Cardiff. But and this is a big BUT, Nantes 2007 will weigh heavy on Welsh fans’ minds . . . when the Flying Fijians knocked them out of that RWC plus and this is a big PLUS for Fiji, for the first time ever, we have a team made up mainly of Fijian Drua players with two seasons of Super Rugby under their belt, plus five Tests to boot including a win over England at Twickenham. Sure, the loss of Fiji fly-half Caleb Muntz, blew a hole in Simon Raiwalui’s plans and preparations for this game and the tournament overall, but
