Description

April’s midwife Amanda made a significant impact on her home birth experience, so we had to invite her on the pod to get a glimpse into her "why" and hear her perspectives on physiologic birth and more!We kick things off by learning about how Amanda got her start in midwifery. Amanda shares her philosophy on physiologic birth and interventions during pregnancy. The three of us discuss our theories on why women and society as a whole doubts our bodies’ ability to birth naturally. Amanda tells us about her least favorite interventions for completely healthy moms with normal pregnancies, and more importantly, why these are her least favorite. Because at MOTR we are all about bodily autonomy and empowered decision-making, we are huge fans of HBACs (home birth after cesarean) and VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean). We learn about some of the implications and roadblocks involved in being a midwife in the state of Georgia vs. other states and share some ideas for how to find an HBAC-supportive practitioner. Also, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room— at least among the crunchy mom community— and that is the rise in MEDwives and dwindling of midwives. We each hypothesize why medwives are becoming more ubiquitous, and no; they’re no longer primarily tied to the hospital system. Tired of outdated and conventional motherhood advice? Are you anti- (insert "Big" + industry name) exploiting the mother-baby dyad for financial gain? Do you prefer to think critically about practices and philosophies across the pregnancy to motherhood spectrum? If you said "yes" to any of the above questions, then you're going to fit right in. Don't worry— this is not another "mainstream mama" podcast.Whether you are a soon-to-be mom or a seasoned mom who has "seen it all," April and Kat promise to never shy away from topics that are far too controversial to discuss at the local playground with the "normie" moms or with your child's pediatrician. These topics should not be controversial at all, but sadly in our highly-censored society, almost anything can be interpreted as such. We're so glad you discovered us! Join us every other Friday as we step outside of our comfort zones, say what many of you are thinking but too afraid to admit out loud, and examine mainstream mom narratives through a funny and honest lens. We may just even change your mind about deeply held beliefs if you're open to it!
