Description
Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 49 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Sunday morning 19 November 2023. Happy 40th Culden & Amete! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. And we begin with the US$1Billion cost, 6.1Km Las Vegas Grand Prix where Ferrari claimed a qualifying one-two with Charles Leclerc to start the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix on pole after a dramatic session that saw big names tumble early. The champion Max Verstappen came in third but starts on the front row instead of Carlos Sainz, who finished second, but was dropped back 10 places after copping a grid penalty that left the Ferrari star fuming. So the starting line-up when the Las Vegas Grand Prix gets underway at 10PM sin city time tonight:1 — Charles Leclerc, Ferrari2 — Max Verstappen, Red Bull3 — George Russell, Mercedes4 — Pierre Gasly, Alpine5 — Alex Albon, Williams6 — Logan Sargeant, Williams7 — Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo8 — Kevin Magnussen, Haas9 — Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin10 — Carlos Sainz, Ferrari (10-place grid penalty) “Still disappointed with the penalty,” Sainz told Sky Sports post-qualifying. “Not going to lie, still in a very bad mood and trying not to show it too much. But it is what it is.” In SportsBiz: Warren Buffet has been wildly successful when it comes to investing, making money with Apple, Coca-Cola, SirusXM and more. Now, Buffet can add “sports team owner” to his portfolio.Berkshire Hathaway — Buffet’s mega-fund with a market cap of more than US$700Billion — has invested in Atlanta Braves Holdings, the new parent company of the MLB team that Hathaway recently bought nearly US$8Million worth of shares in, according to an SEC filing. In their third fiscal quarter, the team reported an 11% jump in revenue to US$272M. Operating income swung from a loss of $4.7M a year ago to a gain of $15.7M.In football: FIFA’s process in awarding Saudi Arabia the 2034 World Cup was significantly quicker than those of most other editions, arriving 11 years ahead of the event. Now, a potential US$1Billion sponsorship deal is putting the bidding process in a new light. Aramco, the Saudi Arabian state-owned oil company, is close to becoming FIFA’s biggest sponsor in a deal that would include annual payments of up to US$100Million through 2034, according to the London Times. It is unclear whether sponsorship talks between Saudi Arabia and FIFA took place after, during, or even before Saudi Arabia’s World Cup bid. This isn’t FIFA’s first brush with controversy involving World Cup bids, with the US Department of Justice accusing FIFA officials of taking bribes from Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and Qatar securing hosting rights for 2022.
