Description

Humor is a powerful tool to use in your writing. You can use humor to give your readers an experience or simply to make them feel. Beyond knowing what makes your audience laugh, there are four key components you need to write in a way that will make your readers laugh: pattern interruption specificity, complicity, repetition, surprise. You always need to interrupt the current pattern to insert your humor, but you also need to use specific elements that your audience relates to. By doing so, you create complicity, and you can come back to that complicity through repeating pattern interruptions. However, always make sure you don’t become predictable.
