Description

Malo and welcome to Season 4 Episode 32 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on another beautiful blue sky Thursday morning 02 February 2023, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!  In the NBA – LeBron James scored a 28-point triple-double as the Los Angeles Lakers dug deep to score a 129-123 overtime win against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.  James is now just 89 points away from surpassing the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading points scorer after another superb performance in his 20th season.  The 38-year-old passed two more milestones on Tuesday as he secured the third triple double of his career at Madison Square Garden. James finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, moving him ahead of both Mark Jackson and Steve Nash into fourth on the all-time rankings for assists. At his current rate of scoring, King James is on target to pass Abdul-Jabbar’s mark of 38,387 points next Tuesday when the Lakers host the Oklahoma City Thunder.  In rugby league – The Daily Telegraph’s Coaches Survey 2023 of more than 20 NRL Coaches and Assistant Coaches reveals a stark lack of support for the Pride Round in support of the LGBTQ+ community, with only 33 per cent of the Coaches surveyed supporting the concept.  In the NFL – there’s nothing like a rematch. CBS Sports’ coverage of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game was the most-watched TV program since Super Bowl LVI. The thriller, which saw the Chiefs beat the Bengals by a field goal, drew 53.1 million television viewers In Sportsbiz – Super Bowl LVII on 12 February between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona could see the most bets for any U.S. sports event ever; projected to take in more than US$1.1Billion in bets at legal betting agencies across the US. In boxing – despite being critically panned, Dana White’s Power Slap League will move forward on pay-per-view with the Power Slap finals airing live from Las Vegas on 11 March in four different weight classes - heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, and welterweight.  In football – Deadline Day is over. The final, frantic, 24 hours in the English Premier League transfer window has come and gone, with Man U signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer because Christian Eriksen is set to miss the most of the rest of the season with an ankle injury. PSG was left fuming after Hakim Ziyech’s loan move from Chelsea was put in jeopardy and potentially off all together after Chelsea failed to submit the paperwork on time. Arsenal bolstered their midfield stocks with a US$14.7Million deal with Chelsea for Brazilian star, Jorginho on an 18-month contract with the EPL leaders.  And we finish with some absolutely crazy rugby union news – the Welsh Rugby Union – which has recently been hit by sexism and discrimination allegations, has banned choirs from singing the popular Tom Jones hit ‘Delilah’ during their performances on Test match-days at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, because the song’s lyrics include reference to a woman being murdered by her jealous partner.  My my my Delilah!  For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vina’a and thank you – please hit the subscribe button below if you would like to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.
