Description

Malo  and welcome to Episode 75 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a  wrap of Pasifika peoples sports on this cloudy Tuesday morning 13  September 2022 - coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in  the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby – good  to hear the Fiji Rugby Union Chairman and Navy Commander, Humphrey  Tawake will consult all stakeholders on how to celebrate the Fiji Mens  7s team’s Rugby World Cup 7s win in Cape Town yesterday. Real  easy when you think about it - get the government, FRU’s biggest  stakeholder - to ram through another Act of Parliament, under Standing  Order 51, to award each player F$20,000 and the girls F$10,000 each plus  a public holiday- for the fans. In rugby league – Latrell  Mitchell is set to become the highest-paid player in NRL history, with  the Souths star on course to make as much as A$4Million for a three year  deal at the Dolphins, that’s if Wayne Bennett gets his way – and he  usually does. Mitchell is currently on A$850,000-a-year with the Rabbitohs until the end of next season. In  football – when you think about it, Jurgen Klopp’s biggest deal last  off-season was convincing Mohamed Salah not to leave. That was as big as  and important as any done deal this year. Liverpool also reacted quickly to losing Sadio Mane who they could not hang on to, by signing Darwin Nunez. In tennis – congratulations  to US Tennis Open Winner senior Carlos Alcaraz, the youngest men's  player ever at just 19 and also the new World Mens Tennis Numero Uno. His road to the final and the title was tough – his marathon quarterfinal finished at 3am. Then the Spanish gringo survived  another five-setter against 24-year-old American Frances Tiafoe, the  first Black American man to make the semis of the US Open since Arthur  Ashe in 1972. On Sunday Alcaraz was at his athletic best to score a 6-4 2-6 7-6 6-3 victory over 23-year-old Norwegian Casper Ruud. In boxing – a boxing rivalry laced with controversy renews next weekend in Las Vegas as bitter rivals, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin fight for Canelo's complete set of Super-Middleweight belts in their trilogy fight. This after Canelo escaped with a split-decision draw in their first fight in 2017, which many  fans and experts believe he lost, and then the Mexican stole a  majority-decision win in their second clash; another result marred in  controversy. The sweaty, slippery Mexican has been dodging GGG ever since for a re-match, only now four years later that GGG is 40 and visibly slower, is Canelo ready to rumble!
