Description

Malo  and welcome to Episode 80 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a  wrap of Pasifika peoples sports on this beautiful bright and sunny  Sunday morning 18 September 2022 - coming to you from paradise on the  180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby – prominent  Fijian lawyer and human rights activist, Graham Leung has criticised  the Fijian government for not postponing the RWC7s win celebrations with  a street parade through Suva to the national stadium last Friday  morning, until after the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II, calling it  crass and disrespectful. Former  top Referee, Nigel Owen has tweeted his support for  Monsieur Raynal,  the Referee in the Bledisloe Test in Melbourne last Thursday night:  “Clear communication and warning to the player to get on with it. A fair  and strong refereeing call by Raynal I feel. Learning here is not for  the Referee, but the players to get on with it when the Ref asks.” In rugby league – Souths  are into a fifth straight NRL semi-final versus Penrith next week after  a 38-12 win over the Cronulla Sharks at a sold-out Allianz Stadium last  night. To their credit, the Sharks won 11 of 12 games heading into the  finals to clinch second place on the regular season ladder. In boxing – counting down to the clash between Canelo Saul Alvarez and Gennady GGG Golovkin for a third time at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas for Canelo's full set of Super-Middleweight belts. The pair are expected to walk to the ring at around 4pm this afternoon, depending on early results. The payout for both fighters is phenomenal, with Canelo reportedly set to take home US$65Million between guarantees and a pay-per-view bonus while GGG Golovkin isn’t too far behind at US$43M. In  football - the tiny nation of Qatar, which is around 4,400 square  miles, just over half Fiji’s land mass but with a population of just  under 3 million people, expects 1.2 million fans to attend the FIFA World Cup, and estimates the tournament will boost its economy by at least US$17Billion. Staying in Qatar - Budweiser is boosting its alcohol-free beer as the official beer of Qatar's upcoming FIFA World Cup. Budweiser Zero will  be available to fans as an alternative to its alcoholic counterpart due  to Qatar's strict laws on the sale of alcohol in public. In Chess – after years of old Russian men dominating world chess, accusations  of cheating, countered by offer to play naked to prove fairness, have  exploded onto the world professional chess scene between Norwegian  superstar World Chess Champion and number one for a decade, Magnus  Carlsen – the Mozart of chess, considered by many as the Greatest Of All  Time and under-20 upstart New Yorker – the incredibly talented,  arrogant and over confident Youtube sensation, Hans Niemann. The  feud started after Magnus withdrew from a round-robin tournament after  losing to the brash American kid and then accused Niemann of cheating. That would be like that awful Aussie Nick Kygrios . . never mind. For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Mahalo, vina’a and thank you!
