Phil Balagtas is a design leader with over two decades of experience in design presently working as Experience Design Director at McKinsey Design and also the founder of The Design Futures Initiative, which is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that produces events and workshops to evangelize the various approaches which involve using Design to speculate about alternate futures. Phil has a wonderful experience working in various devices and platforms within non-profit, retail, advertising, and enterprise software organizations.
In this episode, Phil had shared great insights on speculative design and how to use speculative design as a vehicle or method to think about alternative futures, and why designers should speculate. We also discussed how speculative design could integrate with Design Thinking to form future stories or fiction. In the latter part, we discussed various frameworks and methodologies to implement speculative design and its limitations.
