But unlike a typical homeless teen story, Natasha was not living in squalor. Natasha was a high-achieving violinist. Her whole young life, however, was defined by living with a mother with mental illness and a father who did not do his part to protect her. At age 16, Natasha's father and, sadly, her younger brother dropped her off at a homeless shelter after her mother attempted to kill her. After that, she was unofficially emancipated.
