Description
A gift is not a gift if you expect ANYTHING in return! Have you ever given a gift and gotten your feelings hurt because you didn't get a "thank you" in return? If so, it wasn't a gift. Gifting should, ultimately, be a selfish thing. You should give only with the goal of pleasing yourself having given something with no expectation of repayment of any kind--not even gratitude!
Show outline:
Have you ever given a gift and gotten your feelings hurt because you didn't get a "thank you" in return?
You expected repayment in the form of gratitude!
Have you ever been upset because you gave a gift to someone, only to find out later they gave it to someone else?
It wasn't a gift because you placed conditions upon its use!
The definition of "Gift" is: something, tangible or intangible, given to someone without the expectation of payment.
Expecting a simple "Thank you," or expecting the person to keep it or use it in a certain way is expecting a form of payment, which makes it a purchase, not a gift!
Yes, it is common courtesy to say "Thank you" when someone gives us something. However, you can’t control what other people do or say; all you can control is you.
True gift giving is ultimately a selfish act. You should give because it pleases you to give. You should give because it makes you happy to give.
