Description

Dawn Jarvis is just absolutely remarkable. This episode was such a relaxed, candid conversation with a friend all about the way she sees her job and the doors that have flown open for Dawn as she's really leaned into her passion. From elopement and micro wedding photographed from the Oregon Coast and all over the world to seniors and families Dawn has leveraged her playful personality and wildly creative mind to get into everything from selling presets that immolate her filmic grainy style to guide templates that have become central to her client experience.
So many photographers today feel this intense need to follow the pack, niche down, focus on developing their style, and chase down all of the newest gear and then wonder why they're drowning in impostor syndrome and a lack of motivation. Dawn's perspectives on simply living within our purpose and pursuing growth and style and opportunity only when it feels like the right time to do so and with intentionality is so inspiring. What we're left with when we follow Dawn's advice? Not simply work that feels organic but a clientele that is fully invested in the way we can capture with is authentically there.
I think you're going to love this laid back chat. It's rare to get the opportunity to hear a photographer and educator as well known as Dawn dig this deep into her philosophy and Dawn's love for her clients, her family, and her process really shines through. I know I was personally challenged to dig even deeper into utilizing client questionnaires to allow my relationships, my posing, and even my compositions to reflect the people who have hired me to document them.
