Description

Kelly and Chip welcome Dr. Hayden Shafer, an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center who provides care through the Program for LGBTQ Health, specializing in delivery of primary care and gender affirming treatments across the state. Dr. Shafer speaks from his medical experience working with patients dealing with gender incongruence and educates the duo on the multi- layered process that isn’t typically discussed in our culture. He gives examples and some shocking statics, using science and medicine to hopefully bring light to a community that many of us still know little about. This podcast is meant to shine light on gender incongruence, transgender people and their friends and families to better understand their battles, feelings and lifelong processes that are so often overlooked in media and politics.

Hi, I am Kelly Henderson and my greatest fulfillment in life comes from connecting with people. I have worked as a stylist and hair and makeup artist in the country music industry for over 12 years. My business is beauty, and this podcast allows me to take a deeper look at not only external beauty, but also beauty on a greater scale – the beauty that come from inside each of us. I like conversations that will stretch and challenge me. Some interviews will include hard conversations like infertility, racism and spirituality on many different levels, while others in the 'Act Casual' series may include uncomfortable, yet laughable topics about sex and dating. Obviously, because I am in Nashville and work in the country music industry, you will also find conversations with some of country music’s biggest stars such as Jason Aldean and Dierks Bentley and their wives. Ultimately, I am a curious person who loves learning about why we do what we do as people and why we are all really here. Join me to explore the ‘Velvet’ and the ‘Edge’ in life.
