Description

The Cincinnati Bengals defense may have to adjust without some key stars this weekend against the Buccaneers.
Defensive end Trey Hendrickson hasn't practiced all week with a wrist injury that could sideline him this Sunday. Nickel cornerbacks Mike Hilton and Jalen Davis also haven't practiced all week either. Davis is nursing a thumb injury and Hilton is battling knee issues. That means that edge rushers Joseph Ossai and Cam Sample will have to step up if Hendrickson is a no-go.
The dilemma for the Bengals is likely starting rookie safety Dax Hill at nickel if neither Hilton nor Davis is ready for this Sunday. Hill has only played a modest amount of snaps all year and has even battled minor injuries since the bye week this season. The only other person behind hill would be veteran reserve and special teamer Michael Thomas.
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady has a knack for exploiting matchups featuring young defensive backs. Having star receivers like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans doesn't help. Rookie cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt faces another stiff challenge as he's been thrown into the fray this year.
However, the Bengals have made do without various faces all year, including defensive tackle D.J. Reader who missed six weeks, and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie who's sitting on the season-ending injured reserve. There's also no lack of confidence after stuffing rushers like Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb in recent weeks.
The Strictly Stripes crew takes stock of the injuries the Bengals are battling and the likelihood of not having some of those key players this weekend. They're also joined by special guest and CLNS Media columnist Mike Petraglia, who covered Brady extensively during his time with the New England Patriots. Petraglia breaks down where Brady is today in respect to Bengals QB Joe Burrow.
This podcast features Mohammad Ahmad, Michael Niziolek and special guest Mike Petraglia.
