Description

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
Another session to answer a question on DETAILS OF THE HEAVENLY REALMS, in regards to the Buddha's Gradual Instructions to Lay People on the HEAVENLY REALMS (saggakathaṁ). This session is specifically on NON-RETURNERS & THE PURE ABODES, as we complete our review of the heavenly realms of form (rūpa-loka).
The noble beings that dwell in the Pure Abodes are non-returners and arahants and they are considered the most superior beings in the world.
This session explores what we know about these realms from the suttas.
Our minds are lifted and brightened when we think about these great and wise noble beings.
In this session, we examine:

— the five realms that comprise the Pure Abodes
— Buddha's visit to the Pure Abodes, noting that he mentions he has never previously been born into these realms
— the abilities of the noble beings dwelling in the Pure Abodes and the important role they play, the knowledge and wisdom they are endowed with and the types of activities in the Pure Abodes
— what is means to be a non-returner and they types of non-returners
— examples of lay people, monks and nuns who were reborn in the Pure Abodes, including Hatthaka of Alavi, Venerable Pukkasati and Ghatikara
— the qualities of Brahma Sahampati, who dwells in the Pure Abodes.

Some of the suttas that are mentioned directly or indirectly in this session:

— Mahāpadāna Sutta (DN 14)
— Saṅgīti Sutta (DN 33)
— Mahāsamaya Sutta (DN 20)
