Description
Remember, being empathetic is a kind way to respond to people’s emotional experiences, but isn’t helpful if we’re not conscious of how that is affecting our own. When we direct all of our attention outward, we become unbalanced + disconnected from our own needs - which makes us less effective at addressing anyone’s needs (our own or someone else’s). It’s easy to become codependent (mirror moods, chameleon your energy to appease, anticipate other people’s needs) and lose sight of your independence out of fear of “upsetting others”. Check in with yourself by asking things like: Am I resentful of other people’s emotions + lack of gratitude, am I having trouble setting boundaries, am I struggling with putting your own emotional wellbeing above my perceived predicted reactions of others, am I unable to communicate clearly so I often resort to passive aggressive comments instead?
