Description
013 - Kelly Catale
Grinding through deep valleys and high over mountain peaks, pushing and suffering through despair and isolation - these are feelings familiar to any elite-level mountain biker. But when the physical pain is exceeded by the emotional ache of depression and anxiety, no amount of fitness can ease the torment.
On the podcast today, professional mountain biker and gravel rider Kelly Catale joins us to share her lifelong struggle with depression and anxiety. She talks about the role that it plays in her racing and how a like-minded coworker saved her from her worst moment.
I want to thank Kelly for sharing her story; this is a conversation that - were it not for this podcast - frankly I never would have had the opportunity to have and, so, even though we are just 13 short episodes in, I'm really grateful for the opportunity to do this and for Kelly's willingness to share her story.

Quotes:
"Don't thrive in shame. Don't suffer in silence"
"I’m a coward because I am willing to accept praise without sharing everything. Even worse, I was inadvertently exploiting a system that is designed to repress publicizing something so incredibly common in our population."
"Part of my motivation to stay active and insanely busy is to keep myself away from the Darkness."
