If you were born between 1950 and 1980, then the odds of you growing up in the back of a station wagon were pretty good. Wagons are of course, those wonderful sedan-based rectangles that could cart up to seven people around in relative comfort. They were the family workhorse and up until their decline in the mi- 1990’s, basically occupied a spot in almost every suburban driveway. Mid-way through the wagon’s lifecycle however, Chrysler introduced the modern minivan, and then later, the modern SUV which proved to be the first two nails in the station wagons coffin. We at Hemmings however, LOVE wagons (and vans too), which is why this episode of the Hot Rod BBQ podcast is dedicated to those wonderful family haulers that we so fondly remember.
