The Baylor Bears could be searching for a new conference in the next two years.
No, it's not likely the Big 12 will completely implode, but the entire landscape of college athletics is being flipped on its head as schools like Texas and Oklahoma head for the SEC and UCLA and USC bail from the Pac-12 to the Big 10. As the madness continues, it's wise to start looking at Baylor's standing amongst other national programs and how the team would fare in a league like the SEC. More importantly, though, it's worth considering if Baylor could even make it to the SEC.
Locked On Baylor host Drake Toll is joined by Cameron Stuart to analyze possible conference moves for the Bears, dissect the Pac-12's imminent implosion and compare Baylor's brand to other schools across America. In the podcast, both guys agree that the Baylor brand is not large enough to be on the front end of the pecking order when it comes to the SEC's wishlist. The Waco-based college is small, religious, private and lacks great attendance at sporting events. That may be enough to make the SEC balk.
The question then becomes more bleak and desperate — what can Baylor do to stay afloat? In an effort to avoid getting thrown into the Mountain West Conference in the event of a Big 12 collapse, Mack Rhoades and the entire Baylor program must market themselves well and push for recognition on the forefront of these changes. Without that, this could go very south for the Green and Gold.
