On another edition of Big 12 roundtable, Locked On Baylor host Drake Toll joins Locked On Big 12 host Josh Neighbors and a crew of personalities from BYU and Oklahoma to hit the hottest topics in the league. The first point of contention centered around baseball in the conference, something only the Oklahoma host still has in play. However, Drake offered plenty of insight on Steve Rodriguez stepping down from the Baylor program and the implications it has for the team. Factoring in up to 20 players threatening to transfer with the team's record not meeting par, it was no surprise that Rodriguez left and Baylor nation now turns to who's next.
Getting into the meat and potatoes of the show, Drake and company discuss the best candidate for Big 12 player of the year for the upcoming football season. From Dillon Gabriel to the obvious choice of Bijan Robinson, Drake goes outside of the box to mention Texas Tech's Sarodorick Thompson as a viable candidate for the award. All said, though, it still feels like Deuce Vaughn of Kansas State is the most consistent player in the conference.
To round out the show, each host is given the opportunity to express who from their team could be the Big 12 player of the year in the fall. For Drake, this answer was a no-brainer — it has to be Siaki Ika. The massive defensive lineman weighs in at 350 pounds and can wreak havoc on any Big 12 offensive line. After breaking out toward the end of last season, it would be no surprise if Ika kept on his ascent and became the league's best overall player in 2022.
