Mario Cristobal was harshly criticized by a pair of anonymous coaching agents in a new piece in Saturday Out West. "Everybody talks about how good of a recruiter he is. How come he didn’t have a quarterback outside (of inheriting) Justin Herbert?" Cristobal is widely regarded as one of the best recruiters in the country, so is this a fair criticism? In his 3 full recruiting cycles at Oregon, he landed the number 8 class in 2019, the number 14 class in 2020 and the number 7 class in 2021. He also laid the foundations for a top 10 class in 2022.
John Garcia Jr. from Sports Illustrated joins host Alex Donno to break down Cristobal's recruiting success as head coach at FIU and offensive line coach at Alabama. John discusses the differences in recruiting at a place like Oregon with top resources but not top geography for high school talent, versus a place like Miami in the opposite situation. John and Donno also run down some of the top class of 2023 prospects set to visit Miami this month like S Jayden Bonsu and S Joenel Aguero. Top athlete Nyckoles Harbor does not have a visit schedule as of yet, but he's named Miami in his top 8 finalists and will take time making his decision. He might not commit until late signing day next February.
