Description

ABOUT THIS EPISODE Robert (Yisrael) Aumann was born in pre-war Germany, moved with his family to New York and eventually ended up in Israel, where he has been a professor of economics for over 50 years at the Hebrew University, and founder of its Center for the Study of Rationality. Professor Aumann was awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in Economics for his pioneering work in the field of game theory. In this enlightening conversation, Professor Aumann shares his early life story; explains (in layman terms) what "game theory" actually is, and which disciplines it connects to; and even shares what his favorite board game is! Of course, he also tells the wonderful story of receiving the Nobel Prize at a ceremony in Stockholme, Sweden, making a Hebrew blessing at the central banquet, and watching the Israeli flag fly high above his hotel there. Professor Aumann is surely a Jew You Should Know. ---------------------- ABOUT THIS PODCAST Jews You Should Know introduces the broader community to interesting and inspiring Jewish men and women making a difference in our world.
