Description

The last week of Hack to School is upon us, and the class is body shop... as in... Student Bodies shop. Boom. We truly save the best punny title for last. This week we ponder, Is Student Bodies the Naked Gun of Horror?
Never seen it? Well, as of the time of this recording, it was free on Pluto TV... even if Pluto TV is the most annoying free streaming app since the times of a town crier yelling nonsense with a clangy bell.
The film was written and directed by Mickey Rose with contributions from Michael Ritchie as "Allen Smithee." Rose was an early contributor of Woody Allen.
A key consideration in this film is its history and its contemporaries. We create a timeline of horror form the 60's to the time of the film's release, so show what the filmmakers had to rely upon, then the films that came out the same year to show its competition.
I'll just copy and post some of those titles  for the metadata here:
1960- Peeping Tom, Psycho; 1963- Blood Feast; 1971- A Bay of Blood; 1972- The Last House on the Left; 1974- Black Christmas, Texas Chainsaw; 1976- The Town that Dreaded Sundown, Alice, Sweet Alice; 1977- The Hills Have Eyes, Martin; 1978- Halloween, The Toolbox Murders, I Spit on Your Grave; 1979- The Driller Killer, When a Stranger Calls, Microwave Massacre, Tourist Trap; and 1980- New Year’s Evil, Christmas Evil, fade to Black, Friday the 13th, Mother’s Day, Prom Night, Terror Train, Motel Hell.
