Description

Happy Monday everyone, and happy #hacktoschool week 2!  This week, we are joined by our esteemed podcast buddies of Much Ado About Nerding, Joe and Sally, to discuss our history class lesson: Apostle (2018).
Apostle is the Netflix original film written and directed by Gareth Evans, who you may know from The Raid, The Raid Part 2, and the Safe Haven segment from VHS 2.  If you’re a fan of any of these, you may be pleasantly, or not so pleasantly surprised by Apostle, as it steers clear from a lot of the thematic elements present in the aforementioned films.  However, Apostle is about a cult, so maybe there's a cult following. We could sure use the downloads, people. I'll drink whatever punch you've got if you make this show a success.
The film stars Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones and Bill Millner, and takes place in 1905.  The backdrop of the film is this dreary island and even features some supernatural elements, which may or may not surprise you, as Jake makes abundantly clear. But there’s a lot of fun gore, a lot of questions that don’t get answers, and finger crunching that we definitely recommend you watch, at the very least.  In addition, the four of us go on a few side rants that include Hugh Jackman, Age of Apocalypse, and a bit about a mirror that you won’t want to miss!  We had a lot of fun on this one, most of it not having much to do with the film nor the history lesson, but could also be classified as a debate if we really want to go there.
