Description

Born Mark William Calaway, this ginger giant went on to become possibly the most long-tenured, scandal free pro wrestler of all time: The Undertaker.
Don't care about wrestling? Well this episode is still worth your time as this man's career is prolific and unlike any other. Also, I mean... he's a zombie priest with a dayjob at a mortuary, or something? I mean, he's like The Tall Man from Phantasm with some spandex and biker tattoos.
Whether you know him as The Dead Man, The Phenom, The American Badass, or Big Evil, Calaway has been integral in the longstanding success of the WWE. Moreover, he helped carry character based, spooky wrestling through the gritty and hyper-realistic "Attitude Era."
In this episode we are joined by Micah Rose, more commonly known as his wrestling persona Caesar, of The Panel Discussion Podcast: http://bicbp-radio.com/the-panel-discussion/ Micah also has a new podcast, Damn That's Scary, that can be found here https://open.spotify.com/show/6dNFkHscIpEeHuEzUavabC?si=rU61nR6xQ1KodTqy84KpQQ Did you know "Mean" Mark was trained by Don Jardine and Buzz Sawyer? Jardine was a masked wrestler known as "The Spoiler," and that fancy move 'Taker does walking on the top rope? Yeah, that's an homage to him.
We discuss the pre-WWE career of Calaway, which had him actually beaten by Bruiser Brody, and sharing the stage with lifelong friends such as Paul Heyman. His gimmicks there, from The Punisher, to Dice Morgan, all sowed the seeds of the character to come.
We then detail Calaway's WWE career, his notable feuds, special effects, matches, and gimmick changes. We also get into the fact that he legitimately feared he would be debuting as The Gobblety Gooker.
We wrap things up by discussing the best/ worst Undertaker ripoffs we have ever seen.
This week's "Hidden Track" is Morning Coffee with their song Snakes Love Golden Skin. https://morningxcoffee.bandcamp.com/
