    Legal Luminaries' Legacy

    In his formative years, Harish Salve found himself enthralled by Bollywood icon Dilip Kumar, a fascination that coincided with his burgeoning interest in law and taxation. Salve's introduction to the legal world came through a case involving Dilip Kumar, where he watched his father, N.K.P. Salve, who would later become a Union minister and BCCI president, spearhead the legal defense. The case, titled Income Tax Officer v. Dilip Kumar alias Yousuf Khan, was a daily fixture at the income tax tribunal in June 1975. Fresh out of graduation, Salve was given the chance to assist his father by handling the case files at the tribunal, marking not only his first case but also an unforgettable commencement to his legal journey.

    Initially aspiring to be an engineer, Salve soon redirected his ambitions towards chartered accountancy, hoping to follow in his father's footsteps. His father, however, had shifted his focus to income tax law, often working alongside the esteemed advocate Nani Palkhivala. Palkhivala's influence deepened Salve's interest in law, prompting him to specialize in taxation as he pursued his legal career.

    Salve's upbringing in Nagpur included education at SFS School and a commerce degree from Nagpur University. He simultaneously studied law and chartered accountancy, drawing from the professional ethos of his father, a respected chartered accountant, and his mother, a physician. Life in Nagpur was uncomplicated, with social activities often involving trips to forests or local dhabas. Though Salve later relocated to Delhi, leaving behind
