Foreword
Dr. Richard C. Demeritte, depicted in this book in all of his versatile fullness, no doubt has demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt the capacity to transcend achievements satisfying to others, with far-reaching significance the world over.
The following pages will speak of his early life in one of the humblest of Bahamian communities; his climb through those embryonic and important years that form a man; his civic/sports interests; service to his country within the nation’s civil arm and the diplomatic corps; and the noble accountancy profession.
In all, his stewardship, as the country’s Auditor General, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium/Federal Republic of Germany/Republic of France/and the European Economic Community, and Chartered Accountant supreme on the national and international fronts, has been truly impeccable.
Yet, there is another aspect to this man of international (worldwide) repute.
Dr. Demeritte has, for many decades, mentored others of noteworthy accomplishments. They sat at his feet and gained knowledge and aplomb which translated into their respective deportment and nation-building styles.
With Dr. Demeritte, although his spoken words, even those in moments of hilarity at times, always have been sound and particularly noteworthy, there is that other mentorship characteristic that stood him apart from the rest of his ilk.
Put simply, the way Dr. Richard carried himself was a great lesson to every individual in that group considered his protégé, and all other observers. The young children, both boys and girls, in that certain Out East sector of New Providence (The Pond, Mackey Street North, Okra Hill, Williams Street, St. James Road, The Five Pound Lot, Balls Alley, Kemp Road North, Fowler Street, Lyons Road. St. Margaret Road, with the great northern bordering thoroughfare being East Bay Street, bisected by Shirley Street), gazed at Dr. Demeritte and soaked it all in.
They noticed his air of confidence, his purposeful stride, how he politely greeted others, the respect he had for those of his community, from the lowly to those of importance, his general carriage, and determined to be just like him.
As time went on, that aspiration became an incredibly tall order, but just a meaningful similarity to Dr. Richard C. Demeritte, has meant being one of upstanding character, to say the least.
Indeed, it surely couldn’t hurt, not at all, striving to emulate a man for all seasons.

INTRODUCTION
There can be no character without integrity.
It is one thing to understand the components of true success; it is quite another to lead a truly successful life. Living success involves action, conviction, and self-knowledge, commodities that you alone can supply.
There is no single path to fulfillment, for each of us has different passions and needs. Ultimately, however, our sense of success boils down to one vital principle: personal integrity.
By integrity I do not just mean being morally upright and honest, although that certainly is important. Integrity also means being unified and cohesive.
If we want to receive the rewards the future holds in trust for us, then we must exercise the most important choice given to us as members of the human race by maintaining total dominion over our attitude, character and integrity.
Our character is an asset, a treasure of great value, which must be protected.
Life is about the journey and the destination.
Your past do not have to equal your future. Your past is only something you can learn from.
It is what you do today and every day that creates the future you really want.
Stop replaying your past experiences and focus on the present, you can only accomplish in the present.
Your attitude is really your window to the world; never let outside circumstances or others determine how you should feel about yourself.
Be the best you can be, what you learn only has power when put into action.
The planning brings the future into the present so you can do something about it, planning drives faster decisions and action.
By driving your thinking and planning deeper and broader on the subject, you develop a much better understanding about what you want to accomplish and the different options you have to achieve it.
You are reminded that when you have a decision to make, it don’t
