Tras haber dedicado cuatro años de mi vida a escribir mi primer libro y medio más a publicarlo, había llegado la hora de la verdad. ¿Todo ese trabajo y sufrimiento daría sus frutos y se transformaría en ventas?
Yo sabía que la calidad de mi libro era excelente tanto por dentro —solucionaba un problema latente no satisfecho—, como por fuera —la portada, maquetación, edición, etc. habían sido llevadas a cabo por expertos profesionales—.
También sabía que me convertiría en autor bestseller sin ninguna duda pues había investigado bien cómo hacer un buen lanzamiento en Amazon.
A pesar de todo esto, durante la misma semana de publicación y yendo las cosas estupendamente, recuerdo haberle comentado a otro compañero emprendedor: «Yo firmaría ya porque el libro me diese cincuenta euritos al mes».
¡¿Solo cincuenta euros?!
Sabiendo que tenía entre mis manos un libro increíble y que el lanzamiento iba a ser espectacular… ¿por qué me conformaba con cincuenta míseros euros al mes? Pues porque conozco muy bien el mundo online.
En internet existen productos increíbles que ni se conocen ni se venden por carecer de una buena promoción, y productos mediocres que generan millones de euros (véase Hawkers, por ejemplo) por contar con un buen plan de marketing.
Por supuesto, mis perspectivas económicas habrían sido muy diferentes si hubiese estado dispuesto a trabajar para mi libro (crear un blog, un podcast, dar conferencias, invertir en publicidad, etc.), pero yo ya tenía un trabajo que ocupaba el cien por cien de mi tiempo y lo que quería era que mi libro trabajase para mí y no al revés. Quería un ingreso extra 100% pasivo.
Por suerte, tras el lanzamiento y habiendo alcanzado la posición de bestseller en varias categorías de Amazon tanto dentro como fuera de España, mi libro continuó vendiéndose relativamente bien y los beneficios rondaban los 150€/mes: el triple de los ingresos por los que hubiese firmado sin dudar unos meses atrás.
Estaba más que contento. Un libro que había escrito por pura cabezonería ocupaba las primeras posiciones de Amazon por delante de autores internacionalmente reconocidos, había mejorado mi marca personal de forma increíble —con lo que me llegaban propuestas de trabajo impensables hasta ese momento— y además me daba unos 2.000 euritos al año para irme de vacaciones.
¿Qué más podía pedir?
Ya había conseguido mucho más de lo que prometen decenas de libros sobre cómo autopublicar tu libro y triunfar en Amazon.
Sin embargo, un año más tarde pasó algo que lo cambió todo: llegó la jubilación de mi padre.
Como muchas otras personas de su edad, mi padre empezó a trabajar desde muy pequeño, a la edad de doce años, y durante sus más de cincuenta años de vida laboral nunca había cogido ni un solo día de baja ni había disfrutado de más de quince días de vacaciones seguidos. ¿Te imaginas mi indignación cuando me enteré de que, a pesar de todo, su pensión iba a quedarse en menos de 600€?
¡600€ al mes en España después de toda una vida trabajando muy duro!
La rabia que yo sentía no era poca, así que decidí aprovecharla a mi favor y utilizar esta energía de forma constructiva.
Fue en aquel momento cuando me propuse encontrar la manera de que cualquier persona que escribiese un libro pudiese crear unos ingresos pasivos de, al menos, 600€/mes en menos de un año y no en cincuenta y cuatro como en el caso de mi padre.
