    Chapter 1: Fading Bounty

    The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in bruised purples and fiery oranges. Anya perched on a weathered rock overlooking Sundown Bay, the once vibrant fishing village now cloaked in a heavy stillness. The scent of salt and seaweed hung thick in the air, a constant reminder of the dwindling bounty the sea now offered.

    Gone were the days when nets overflowed with plump fish and the harbor bustled with activity. Today, Kai returned with a meager haul, his weathered face etched deeper with worry lines. Anya watched him unload the limp fish, a familiar pang of disappointment twisting in her gut. This wasn't enough to feed the entire village, let alone the harsh winter fast approaching.

    Sundown Bay hadn't always been so. Anya, despite her young age (barely seventeen summers), remembered tales of overflowing markets and boisterous celebrations. Now, a sense of unease hung heavy in the air. Crops withered in the fields, children grew listless, and whispers of a curse began to permeate hushed conversations.
