    Chapter 1: Unearthed Legacy

The attic air hung heavy with dust motes dancing in a forgotten sunbeam. Maya, her nose wrinkled against the musty scent, sifted through a jumble of forgotten treasures: chipped porcelain dolls with lifeless eyes, a cracked gramophone promising forgotten waltzes, and a tarnished silver locket glinting in the dim light.

This was her inheritance, a treasure trove from an eccentric great-aunt who had spent her life chasing whispers of lost civilizations. Maya, a sensible archaeologist with a penchant for pottery shards and taxonomies, had never quite understood her aunt's obsession. Until today.

Tucked beneath a moth-eaten shawl, her fingers brushed against something cold and smooth. It was a palm-sized disc, carved from a deep blue stone that seemed to shimmer with an inner light. Intricate symbols, unlike any script Maya had encountered, adorned its surface. A thrill shot through her, a spark of curiosity igniting in the face of the unknown.

The inscription on the back sent another jolt. It wasn't any language she recognized, yet somehow, it felt familiar, whispering promises of forgotten secrets. Driven by an impulse she couldn't explain, Maya pocketed the disc and descended from the attic, the weight of the unknown heavy in her hand.

Later that evening, as the storm raged outside, Maya found herself drawn again to the disc. Rain lashed against the windows, and a low rumble of thunder echoed like a restless spirit. Drawn by an unseen force, she traced the symbols with her finger, whispering the strange syllables that seemed to form in her mind.

A sudden crack of lightning illuminated the room, bathing the disc in an unnatural light. The symbols flared, the room filled with an unearthly hum, and the air shimmered before her eyes. Then, silence.
