Echoes of Ancient Mantras - ARIA LUMINARA
Chapter 1: Echoes of the Ancients
The sun blazed overhead as Dr. Maya Thompson stepped onto the ancient grounds. With a scarf draped around her neck and a wide-brimmed hat on her head, she looked every bit the seasoned traveler. Armed with her trusty notebook and a camera, Maya was on the cusp of a breakthrough. As a renowned linguist, she had dedicated her life to understanding and translating lost languages, believing that they held the secrets of our shared human heritage.
The site sprawled over acres of desert, and it was said that beneath its sands lay a city that had been forgotten by time. Pillars from forgotten temples jutted out like skeletal fingers, reaching for the sky. And it was on one of these pillars that Maya hoped to find inscriptions that could redefine history.
The chanting began softly, almost imperceptibly. A distant hum that made the hair on Maya's arms stand on end. She looked around to find the source and spotted a group of monks in saffron robes seated in a circle. Their faces were serene, their postures erect, and their voices harmonised in a way that seemed almost supernatural.
One particular chant caught her ear. Unlike the others, this one was deep and resonant, making the very air vibrate. The monks' eyes were closed, and they seemed to be in a trance. As they chanted this mantra, the sands around them began to shift, forming patterns that seemed eerily familiar to Maya.
Captivated, she approached the circle. The world around her felt different. The blaring sun seemed muted, the sounds of other archaeologists distant. It was as if she had entered a bubble, isolated from the world outside.
Excuse me,
Maya hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper, not wanting to break the enchantment. One of the older monks, his face lined with wisdom and age, opened his eyes and looked at her. There was a glint of amusement in them.
You feel it, don't you?
he asked in perfect English,
