Alchemy and Consciousness Transformation

This book on Alchemy deals with aspects of the Ageless Wisdom preserved in the authentic Mystery Schools of the Western Mystery Tradition. There is no denying that there are aspirants outside the Mystery Schools who have mastered certain levels of Alchemy. But the Mystery Schools are not only the safest way to practice Alchemy, but also the quickest and most direct way to realize the goals of Alchemy described in this book. Certain aspects and interrelationships of Alchemy are revealed in this book more clearly than in any other publication, while other areas are veiled and reserved exclusively for students and initiates of the Mystery Tradition. The most important aspects of practical Alchemy cannot be blindly conveyed in a single publication. This book is not suitable for profane people or atheists who do not yet have sufficient spiritual abilities to explore the Divine Light of Wisdom and Truth outside of materialistic science. Also, Sunday occultists who have borrowed their knowledge only from books cannot serve this book on Alchemy. They will not be able to distinguish the true teaching from the false because they lack the daily practical spiritual training that only a Mystery School can provide. Similarly, spagyrists who specialize in the preparation of remedies from plant or mineral substances will find nothing useful in this book. Nor can this book give a poor man a magic wand with which he can get rich quickly by trickery. Those who seek to learn this high art for wrong motives will deny themselves access to these secrets.

Most practical Alchemy is based on oral tradition, and only a fraction is published in veiled language and accessible only to initiated. Nevertheless, this book can show the way to the sincere aspirant, but true knowledge comes from within. Therefore, carefully selected historical alchemical texts are included in this book to prepare the aspirant for this inner realization. These historical texts are not reproduced verbatim, and some are even reproduced in a different context from the original writings. The footnote number or numbers in brackets following such a passage refer to works that can be found in the bibliography. With these explanations and attributions, the aspirant has enough clues to understand the ancient alchemical writings and symbols. The path may seem rocky and arduous, but nothing less than the gold of wisdom awaits. This book contains no deliberate obfuscations or misstatements to block the way for immature aspirants. Nevertheless, the author reserves the right not to clothe many keys and the true practice in simple words, but only to hint at them through symbols and associations. The author of this book has deliberately chosen not to use language that would be considered gender-specific. The aim is to improve the flow of reading and make complex content more understandable.

The most powerful alchemical training takes place in the authentic initiatory schools of the Mysteries. The initiate will find in this book sufficient clues to discern the next steps on the Path of Return. The term exoteric refers to the outward, obvious, or generally accessible meaning of something, especially in terms of knowledge or teaching. It is often used to refer to a popular or superficial interpretation of things.  Esoteric, on the other hand, refers to the inner, deeper, and often secret meaning of things. It refers to knowledge that is accessible only to the initiated. Esoteric knowledge is not easily accessible and is not intended for the general public.

Similarly, exoteric alchemy focuses only on the external practice and physical properties of matter. In contrast, esoteric Alchemy is an inner practice that deals with the spiritual properties of matter. Esoteric Alchemy requires a deep understanding of the cosmic forces and the spiritual nature of the universe. (1) (2). True alchemical transformation takes place on multiple levels and is both spiritual and material in nature. This book deals exclusively with Esoteric Alchemy, which is an authentic path to the next level of evolution.

Introduction to the Art of Alchemy

Alchemy describes in a symbolic language the mental and physical changes on the spiritual path, that cannot be described with any mundane language. It shows where man comes from, what mechanisms are behind the material appearance and what laws they are subject to.

The term Alchemy comes from the Arabic language and literally means the art of black, referring to the idea of a secret art known only to the initiated (3). Alchemy also reveals the way of transformation of the ordinary animal man into the next evolutionary stage of the God-man. This is not a purely spiritual transformation, for every spiritual transformation requires a physical transformation. The same changes that the alchemists were able to observe in themselves and their spiritual brothers and sisters thousands of years ago are also taking place in our time.  The artisan needs many years to acquire the mental and physical skills to practice his craft. This is also true of the practice of most sports. The apprentice is trained by a master craftsman until he can demonstrate certain skills and abilities to become a journeyman. The skills acquired are accompanied by a physical, i.e. material, change in his body and a change in his mind. It is similar with the high art of Alchemy. Alchemy offers a rich fund of symbols that describe the functioning of man's subtle organs and the process of transformation. The Apprentice in our example corresponds to the Black Work of Alchemy, the Fellow Craft to the White Work, and finally the Master to the Red Work.
