About this ebook

Most likely at some point in your life you will decide if you believe in God. That decision will be accompanied by decisions regarding Jesus, Heaven, Hell, and eternity. THE END OF ETERNITY tries to help you understand some of the other decisions you must make when deciding what you believe. "Is Jesus the son of God," may be one of those questions. Is the big bang real or is the creation story true? If God does exist, is God benevolent and loving or malevolent and vindictive? If God is real where did God come from? Your decision will not change whether eternity does or does not exist. But if eternity does exist, your decision may determine the quality of your personal eternity. THE END OF ETERNITY offers possible answers to those and other questions about God, Jesus, Heven, Hell, and eternity and hopefully that will help you make your decision.

    INTRODUCTION

If you decide there is no God, you have decided there is no eternity. That decision does not change whether eternity exists. But for you, for as long as you live, you will have just created the end of eternity.

In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human mind, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what makes me really angry is that they quote me for support of such views. (Albert Einstein)

"It is my view that the simplest explanation is there is no God. No one created the universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization. There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that, I am extremely grateful." (Stephen Hawking)

Do you believe in eternity? If you do what does eternity mean to you? I think we all have an idea of what eternity means. Dictionary.com defines eternity as 1) infinite time; duration without beginning or end and 2) eternal existence, especially as contrasted with mortal life. But I don’t think many of us have ever spent much time thinking about what eternity is really like.

I will describe eternity so you can picture eternity in your mind. And I will help you see how your life relates to eternity on the eternal timeline. I will also discuss my ideas on subjects like the six days creation model and whether bad things happening is evidence of God’s meanness. Does the fact that evil exists mean that God is not all powerful since God does not stop that evil? If God loves us how come God allows people to hurt, even kill, other people? Where is God’s justice when evil people succeed, and good people fail? Why would God allow disasters like floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes to destroy lives and property? Doesn’t God have better and more important things to do than help with simple problems and requests? Aren’t things like war and famine and poverty more important than whether I pass my math test? I will also talk about whether the shortcomings of religion mean we should not have faith. How does God decide what to do when two people or groups of people ask for the same thing or the same outcome of an event like a football game.

It is important to remember that I am not a priest, or minister or representative of any religion or faith. I have not attended a seminary or had any formal religious training other than sometimes attending religious services. I am not a teacher. I am just a person who has spent most of my life asking these questions, praying about them, meditating about them, studying them. In this presentation I hope to tell you my conclusions in the hope that you may better understand some of the answers or at least cause you to think about them.
