About this ebook
Take a step into the emotions of combat in "Shadows of the Battlefield", a hard-hitting collection of poetry covering before, during, and after combat. In words on the page that are both honest and haunting, you feel the connection between the warrior, the battlefield, and those around them.
Before combat the poems cover the frustration of not knowing what is next, understanding war before you have set foot on the battlefield, and the honesty of missing those left behind. Poetry that shows feeling and allows the reader to step into the shoes of the warrior before the war.
During combat takes you inside all of the chaos and conflict that is felt while immersed in a situation out of the warrior's control. Showing both grace and brutality these poems go over the moments that will live on in the mind forever.
After combat when the real war begins you will read a vivid account of the change one goes through after war. These poems will show the devastation of the mind, body, and soul after combat. They will also go over the resilience we all have as humans, and you will read about the turmoil leading to triumph.
The goal of this book is to meet the readers where they are and allow them to feel what they are meant to feel from each poem. No one has ever visited the same river twice so it is encouraged to read the poems multiple times possibly gaining something new from each time.

Acknowledgements:
There are a million people I could thank for getting me to this point. I hope that you already know who you are, but here are a few I will mention by name.
The first and most important person is my wife. She is always there to back me up and let me know I am capable of anything. She never doubts my abilities. I love her with all of my heart and soul. The next person that I need to thank is my son. His ability to make any situation fun is something very few people have. A few other names are Robert Spiller, Angela Crowder, and Virginia Swinney, my writing group. Because of them I have gained both knowledge and skill in writing. They always have the best words to get me through the stumbles I faced along the way. I consider them all very good friends. So, thank you all for your help not only with writing but as a person. Finally, I would like to thank my therapist. Just a few years ago I was in a hole I thought I would never climb out of. She has spent many hours helping me navigate my way out of that hole. It is a lifelong journey, and I am building the skills to help throughout that entire journey.
Thank you all for the help and understanding.
