About this ebook

Come Ride With Me is a collection of horse poetry from my own experiences.  Isn't that the best way to write poetry?  Enjoy the poetry. Some short. Some long.  Some sad. Many humerous. Some thoughtful.  Sometimes I was downright mad!

So enjoy the horse poetry and let me know which one you liked the best.

I sure had fun writing them.

Mary Beth Brace

About the author Mary Beth Brace was born Gladwin, Michigan on a working farm. There was a wide variety of animals to care for: bunnies, cats, dogs, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, and an array of fowl. (Horses were the best!). She attended Gladwin public schools and so much wanted to attend the Christian school, but her Pa said no. He was going to put her through that public school on his knees, praying. During her youth she loved the horses and went through the 4-H Horse Program (age 8 to 18) and hung out with her horse crazy girlfriends on the weekends and a huge part of summers. She learned how to play her brother's guitar in 3rd grade. When her brother got another guitar, he gave her his old one. and then she took it where ever she went. She loved John Denver songs and wore out his song book. She sang specials in her local church growing up. One Sunday night, as young teen, she got a phone call after church. An elderly lady just called to say she loved the song Mary Beth had written and that God would use her talents for sure someday. Writing and drawing have always been a passion. She grew up reading The Reader's Digest with her mother. It was her mother that gave her a love of poetry. Her mother had several poems memorized, one being "And what is so rare as a day in June?". When her first child was born she came across The Writer's Market. She has been hooked on writing children's stories ever since and continues to learn through self study and various courses, classes and conferences.

Come Ride With Me - Mary Beth Brace

    COME RIDE WITH ME

If you can come ride with me

Through the creek, across the field,

And on along the beach by the sea.

Or shall we go up scenic trails?

Or go along a deserted path?

    Don’t be alarmed

If we are caught in the rain.

Have a horse’s kind of bath!

    Adventures wait...

    What’s around the next bend?

What gifts does nature to us send?

    Horse ears prick forward

    Alert to movement and sound.

A white tail flash of runaway deer,

Calls from bird song drift to the ear.

    Mesmerized by flowing mane

And steady beat of the strike of hooves

    Against the stone and ground.

What a wonderful past time I have found.

If you can come, ride with me.

Lose track of time upon a horses back.

Don’t worry if you feel you can’t ride.

    I’ll teach you...soon you’ll get the knack

    FLEHMEN RESPONSE

    Out our camera quickly comes.

Our horse is exposing his teeth and gums.

What a funny way his nose is bent,

For a better analysis of the scent.

Directing stinky air up his nose,

    Making for a hilarious pose.

    HURT

The lead rope clip was lying in my hand

And reaching for the halter of

    A pony recently purchased...

    My...was he feisty!

    Prancing, dancing,

Trying to get to that mare in the field.

    I reached for the halter

    Before he took off again

    Whinnying for his new girlfriend.

    The clip in my hand,

    Ready for action

Was not supposed to cut me.

I never suspected that it would,

    But it did.

When the hoof stepped on the dragging rope

The hook from the clip pulled

    Catching on
