    CHAPTER 46 A Lost Memory

    Rowena POV

I sit quietly in the living room of the enormous mansion and listen to everything Alpha Gregory has to say to me. Frankly, it all sounds like nonsense, but I did watch this man turn into a wolf earlier, so maybe I should have a little bit of an open mind.

He claims that the Moon Goddess has chosen us to be together for the rest of our lives, but there is something that I don't understand. Why is he so much older than me? Surely, a Goddess would want to pair me with someone closer to my age.

How old am I? I turn away from Alpha Gregory and look to the man who calls himself my brother.

You are eighteen, Luca says, and I believe him.

When I went to the bathroom earlier, I took a long look in the mirror. I barely recognized the woman that was looking back at me. There was a familiarity in my eyes and my dark red hair like I had looked at this reflection over and over again. My face is void of wrinkles, so I knew I must not be very old.

When I studied my eyes in the mirror, I knew for sure that Luca and I must be related. Our eyes are almost identical in color and shape. Their story is adding up, but something still feels off.

How old are you? I ask, turning to Alpha Gregory.

I am forty-five, he responds stiffly.

You are old enough to be my father, I state blandly. Why would the Moon Goddess pair us together?

Alpha Gregory shifts awkwardly in his seat. You are my second chance mate, he begins to explain. I had a mate once before, and she has since passed away. I am such a strong Alpha the Moon Goddess has decided to bless me with another mate.

Luca snorts with amusement but tries to cover it with an ill-placed cough.

And that mate is me? I ask curiously.

Alpha Gregory shakes his head and smiles at me, but there is something hidden behind his smile. There is something they aren't telling me, a piece of the story that is missing.

Alpha Gregory must sense that I am growing suspicious. Once we mated and you have been marked, all the pieces will fall into place. I am sure of it.

Mated and marked? I cock my head to the side and look at Gregory. What does that mean?

Alpha Gregory turns to Luca with a desperate look on his face, and Luca shakes his head fiercely from side to side. Oh no, he says quietly. I have already suffered through the sex talk with her once before. I am not doing it again.

Sex, I sigh. I know what that is.

Good, both men say at the same time.

So, I am expected to sleep with you? I cringe a little as I look at Alpha Gregory. While he is an attractive man, I don't think that I would like to have sex with someone so much older than me.

Suddenly, a memory flashes through my mind. A pair of hazel eyes are peering into my own. They are filled with lust and love. The smell of chocolate fills the air, and I am lost in the moment.

Earth to Rowena, Luca says loudly and harshly. We are in the middle of a conversation.

My face flushes with embarrassment as I think about the memory I just had. I have clearly had sex before. I wonder how many times and with whom.

Sorry, I mutter, I think I just had a memory.

Both Alpha Gregory and Luca look at me with widened eyes. Luca looks like he could vomit, but Alpha Gregory remains calm.

Did your memory tell you anything about your past? Alpha Gregory asks.

I shake my head 'no,' not wanting to tell them what I have seen.

Alpha Gregory lets out a sigh of relief, and his shoulders slump a little. Whatever secret they are keeping from me must be important.

I think I need some time to process all of this, I say quietly.

Of course, Alpha Gregory says. Would you like me to walk you back to your room?

No, thank you. I can find my way, I say as I get to my feet.

Both men get to their feet as I stand. I quietly turn away from them and head for the stairs.

I will come to get you when it is time for dinner, Alpha Gregory calls out, and I look over my shoulder and nod.

I turn and walk away from the men, knowing their eyes are on me as I walk away.

My shoulders slump as I walk up the stairs. All of the information that I have been given is overwhelming, and I don't know how to handle it.

I know they are telling me the truth about the world of werewolves because I saw Alpha Gregory shift with my own eyes. Luca is my brother because we look similar, but the rest of their story doesn't add up.

As I reach the top of the stairs, I want to run to the hideous bedroom and lock the door behind me. But I think that would look suspicious. So, I hold my head high and go to my room.

I walk into the pink and purple bedroom and look around. Could I have really been so girly before I lost my memory? I walk to the closet and peek inside. It is filled with clothes. I stroll through the closet, and everything appears to be in my size.

There is everything from ball gowns to workout clothes. If this isn't my home, then why are all my things here? At least, I think these are my things.

I run my fingers along the clothes and realize everything is brand new. There are tags on every piece of clothing. None of this clothing has been worn.

Panic begins to fill my body. If this is my home, why would I have a closet of all new clothes? Perhaps all of this has been a lie, just as I expected.

Sneaking back across the room, I try to open the door to the bedroom only to find it locked.

No, no, no, I mumble to myself.

My breathing becomes erratic, and I am finding it harder to breathe. I am being held captive, and I don't even know who I am or why.

    CHAPTER 47 A Plan

    Tristan POV

It has only been two days, and Mason is already driving me crazy. He hasn't left my office, and neither has Zoe. Both of them are waiting for some sort of update on Rowena and where she might be.

Zoe is sitting on the couch with her head in her hands. She has been holding back her tears for fear of looking weak, but it is beginning to take a toll on her. Her eyes are red and puffy with dark circles beneath them. She hasn't slept since she got the news that Rowena was missing.

Mason, on the other hand, is letting his tears flow, and it is getting on my nerves. How dare he cry over my mate when he is the reason she was taken in the first place? If he had stayed put, none of this would have happened. Yet, here he is, pacing the floors and crying in my office.

I dodge Mason as I make my way over to Zoe. You need to get some sleep, I tell her. You look like shit.

Wow, she elongates the word. Aren't you the charmer?

I know she is just cranky from lack of sleep, so I don't take offense to her words. It is the truth, I respond. I need you at your best for when we find Rowena.

Am I coming with you? She says, sniffing back some tears.

I certainly can't take sniffles with me, I say, gesturing to Mason.

Mason pauses his pacing and glares at me. She doesn't even know who you are. What makes you think that she will come with you?

Because I am her mate, I say through gritted teeth. That is why she will come with me.

Mason scoffs. She has been running from you from the start. Don't fool yourself. You need me.

Titan is roaring with anger inside my mind at Mason's words. 'How dare he talk that way to us?'

But I only sigh in response. 'He is right. Why would she come with me when she has been hiding from me since she found out we were mates? We need him.'

Titan begins pacing in my mind like he is a caged animal. He is begging me to set him free so he can teach Mason a lesson about who Rowena actually belongs to. I have to push him to the back of my mind, but it causes me to have a major headache.

Pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration, I mind I link Leo and Michael.

'Yes, Alpha,' they respond in unison as soon as the mind link opens.

'Have you found out where Rowena is being held?' I ask.

'Our sources say that she is not being held at the South Redwood Pack,' Leo responds. 'That only leaves Devil's Pass.'

I close the mind link and try to calm the rage within me. There is no telling what Alpha Gregory will put her through. He is a disturbing old man who has had too many chosen mates to count. Rumor has it he has them killed when they are unable to produce an heir. He has never considered that he might be the problem.

The stomping of Mason's feet breaks me from my thoughts. She is at Devil's Pass, I announce to Zoe and Mason.

Then what are we waiting for? Mason yells. Let's go get her.

It isn't that simple, I remind Mason. Devil's Pass may be small, but they are full of assassins. We need a carefully executed plan to infiltrate their pack.

Zoe swallows hard before clearing her throat. I think I know how we can get into Devil's Pass.

Mason and I turn our attention to Zoe. Just how is that?

You have something Alpha Gregory wants, she whispers.

    What is that? I ask.

Me, she says as tears begin to drip down her cheeks. Alpha Gregory tried to negotiate with my father when I turned sixteen to make me his chosen mate, but my father turned him down. My father wanted me to find my fated mate and to be happy.

Guilt rises in my chest. I stole that chance from her by taking her as part of the deal with Alpha Luca. I cannot let you sacrifice yourself, I tell Zoe. There has to be another way.

Zoe sighs. There is no other way. Call Alpha Gregory and let him know you want to make a trade. I am sure he will comply.

No, I growl at Zoe. I will not let you sacrifice yourself to that monster. There is another way. We just haven't thought of it yet.

Mason finally stops his pacing and takes a seat. He rests his head in his hands and begins to laugh hysterically.

What is so fucking funny? I growl at him.

I am the only one that can go get her, he finally says. I have been trained for this shit.

It is true. Mason was trained as an assassin before I made him my Beta. If anyone can cross into Devil's Pass territory undetected, it is him.

But this is not how the story is supposed to go. I am Rowena's mate. I am the one who should be charging in there and saving her.

Titan isn't pleased with the idea either. He continues to growl in my mind, making it harder for me to think.

Pulling the map of the surrounding territories from my desk, I lay it flat so the three of us can study it carefully. Zoe and Mason gather around my desk as I make the plan.

There is a small strip of neutral territory between us and the tip of the Devil's Pass Pack. This is where you will enter from, I tell Mason. I am sure they are keeping her in the pack house, which is located here. If I know Alpha Gregory, she will be on the third floor where Alpha Gregory's room is.

How will I know which room is hers? Mason asks.

I don't know, I admit. You will have to follow her scent.

Mason crackles his knuckles and nods, signaling me to continue.

Do you know what she smells like? I ask him.

Like heaven, Mason says with a dreamy look in his eyes.

I growl at his statement, and Mason wipes the look off his face. Sorry, Alpha, he mutters, but I can tell he doesn't mean it.

Zoe and I will be waiting for you in the neutral zone, I tell him. So, you have to get in and out without being seen. Do you think you can do that?

For Ro, I can do anything, Mason replies.

    CHAPTER 48 Until Tomorrow

    Rowena POV

I stared in the mirror for hours after I realized I was being held captive, trying to make memories come forward. I repeated my name repeatedly, hoping that it would bring forth something I had forgotten. The longer I stared into the mirror, the more frustrated I became. Until finally, I stood up from the stool I was sitting on, made my way to the bed, and drifted off to sleep.

A subtle knocking and the sound of a lock clicking open awakens me from my restless sleep. When my eyes fly open, I panic, not recognizing my surroundings. Then, I recall where I am
