How To Deal With Lust - G.Lyonga

    Chapter 1

What does lust mean in biblical context ?

In a biblical context, lust refers to a strong, passionate desire for something or someone that is typically driven by selfish or sinful motives. It often involves craving something outside of God's intended boundaries or purposes, such as sexual desire outside of the context of marriage, or an insatiable longing for material possessions.

The bible warns against lust in various passages, emphasizing the importance of purity, self-control, and honoring God with our thoughts and actions. For example, Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:28, But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This verse highlights the seriousness of lustful thoughts and emphasizes the need for purity in both actions and thoughts.

Additionally, the apostle Paul addresses the struggle with lust in several of his letters, encouraging believers to flee from sexual immorality and to pursue holiness. For instance, in 1 Corinthians 6:18, he writes, Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Overall from a biblical perspective, lust is seen as a distortion of God's good gifts, leading individuals away from His intended purposes and causing harm to themselves and others. It's essential for christians to recognize the dangers of lust and to seek God's help in overcoming its grip on their hearts and minds.

Healthy desires encompass natural human inclinations towards intimacy, companionship, and physical attraction. These desires, when aligned with God's design for human relationships, contribute to the flourishing of individuals and communities. Examples include the desire for emotional connection, intimacy within the context of marriage, and appreciation of physical beauty as a reflection of God's creation.

    Recognizing sinful lust.

Sinful lust distorts and perverts God-given desires, leading to selfishness, objectification, and disregard for others' dignity. It involves the obsessive pursuit of pleasure at the expense of moral principles and relational boundaries. Sinful lust often
