About this ebook

Jeramiah

My life is a solitary one lived on the fringes of society. Blending in but staying in the shadows. Friends are few, if you can even call them friends. All of us, working for The Company. All of us, more deadly than the world around us knows.

My new mission was a simple one. Gather intel and get out. I had every intention of doing just that until I locked eyes with her.

Milena

Recently losing the only person in this world who cared about me was rough but nowhere near what I'm currently going through.

Hopefully, I can get out of here alive and make my stepfather pay for what he's done.

    Jeramiah's Possession - Marissa Ann

    Prologue

    Milena

My brain barely registers the drizzling rain as it hits my hot skin. Not thirty minutes ago, the sun was beating down so hot on our heads that I actually prayed it would set my stepfather on fire.

I hated seeing him standing there at my mother’s grave like a real grieving widow when he was most definitely not grieving.

He’s made no secret to the fact that he hated my mother after she went through so many miscarriages.

He blamed her for not ever giving him a child although I knew for a fact he had plenty of children with other women outside of his marriage to my beautiful mother.

After I found out the truth, I went straight to her with every intention of telling her but something inside of me stopped me.

I didn’t want to be the one to break her heart even further after she had the last miscarriage. She was devastated and blamed herself for the strain in her marriage.

I never quite understood why she married him. Sure, Micheal DeValo was a handsome man, if you could look past his constant sneer but then again, that sneer was most likely just for me.

I hated him from the very beginning and made sure he knew it too.

Life before Micheal was packed full of some of the greatest memories with my mom. She had me when she was very young to a man her age that died before I was born. Her parents had contracted marriage for her to Micheal when she was just a young girl.

Instead of doing as expected, she fell in love and had me. She left it all behind, raising me in my younger years all by herself in a small town on the other side of the state.

I’m not sure what changed but when I came home from school one day, there were people there packing up our house and I was being told that I would finally have a dad.

He wound up being the furthest thing from a dad that a man could be. I hated the way he always looked at me like a bug that needed to be stepped on.

Then there were his supposed friends that came to the house when I was a teenager. The way they’d look at me made my skin crawl.

Those are the years that I finally figured out that my step father was into all types of shady businesses. As soon as I got the chance to leave for college, I took it.

When Mom called me a year ago and told me she was diagnosed with breast cancer that spread to her brain causing some serious brain tumors, I was devastated at the thought of losing her.

I came back home as much as I could to spend time with her and towards the end, I moved back in.

I swore to myself that I would leave as soon as the funeral was over and I’m going to do exactly that. I just need to run back to the mansion to pick up my suitcases that I packed yesterday.

Miss, we really need to get her casket lowered and covered up. This rain is supposed to get worse. The voice next to me draws my attention and I see one of the guys from the funeral home standing there with a kind look.

Yes, I’m sorry. I zoned out there for a minute. I answer, looking down at my mother’s casket one last time.

Walking over to it, I bend down and kiss the top. Bye Mama. I whisper.

I’m sorry for your loss Miss. The man says gently and I nob, barely holding back the tears in my eyes as I walk back towards my car.

It’s the only one still parked there as everyone else had left already. My step father was one of the first to leave with his entourage of men who are always with him.

Once I’m in my car, I wipe my face and put the car in drive, pulling away from the curb. I watch in the rear view mirror as the cemetery fades slowly out of view telling myself that I’ll visit her grave again soon.

Pulling up the driveway, a knot forms in my stomach. I knew I should have put my bags in the car before leaving for the funeral so that I wouldn’t have to come back here but I honestly thought the house might give me one last dose of memories of my mother.

That isn’t how I’m feeling at the moment though. I think about just driving away and leaving all of it behind.

I could possibly get the cook to mail it all to me later but then again, Micheal would most likely demand it all be thrown out with the trash before I could get the chance.

Resigned to the fact that I do have to go inside the house, I park out front close to the door. I know that Micheal is here because the car he was in earlier is also parked in the driveway as well as several other vehicles which means quite a few of his cronies are inside as well.

With a deep breath, I bound up the front steps, opening the door at the top. As I make my way up the stairs my step-father’s voice calls my name. Stopping me from retreating to my room.

Looking down the hall, I see his office door open and debate whether I should ignore him or not. He’s no longer family as far as I’m concerned. I just want to get my things and leave.

Deciding to just get it over with, I walk to his door and step inside. There’s several men scattered around the room with Micheal sitting in the chair behind his desk.

Come here. We've got things to discuss. Micheal says, leaning forward in his seat.

I wouldn’t think we had anything of note to discuss. I’m just here to get my bags then I’ll be out of your hair for the rest of both our lives. I speak as clearly as I can, holding my head up to meet his eyes.

With mom passing away, I’m no longer obligated to this man in front of me. I expect him to lash out but instead, the corners of his mouth tick up in a smile that makes my skin crawl.

You always did have a smart mouth. Your mother should have taken a firmer hand with you.

There was nothing wrong with how my mama raised me. I say through clenched teeth.

I finally notice out of the corner of my eye a few of the men slowly walking around behind me. Their eyes burn holes through my skin as they do so.

What is it that you want to talk about because I need to get on the road? I say in a somewhat calmer voice even though I’m starting to feel as though something is definitely wrong.

Is she pure? The man to my left asks in an accent I’m not quite sure about.

What difference does it make with a face like that? Micheal nods in my direction and I gasp as my brain finally catches on to what they are discussing.

What the fuck is this? I ask, my heart beating wildly in my chest.

Other men in the room begin to move closer to me very slowly as if approaching their prey.

Shaking my head quickly, I spin on my heel intent on leaving but two men block my path. Looking back at Micheal with wide eyes, he says nothing but looks at the man who asked if I was pure.

I think we can find a good use for her. The man says.

We have a deal then? Micheal asks, standing up.

Both men reach out to shake hands and before I can do anything else, the goons who blocked my path grab me by the arms.

Let me go! I yell, trying to jerk my arms from them.

Gag her. I do not want to listen to her voice all the way home. The man tells the goons who pull me towards the door with me protesting the entire way.

I think I get a few good kicks into their legs as they drag me through the house. One of them almost falls, letting go of my arm for only long enough for me to hit the other one in the head a few times.

Fucking bitch! One of them says just as pain shoots through the back of my head and black spots dance before
