    Tracy trudged toward the reception with the rest of the wedding party, a solemn needle in the haystack of jubilant revelers.

    Only three months ago, she had been ecstatic; she was going to be a bridesmaid in one of her best friends’ weddings, and Tracy’s own wedding was just around the corner.

    Only three months since she had broken her engagement off with James.

    Three months since her life had gone to shit.

    The man who pulled out her chair graced her with a gentle smile. Zack, the best man and the groom’s older brother. Much older—evident by the silver streaks in his smooth hair and his salt-and-pepper beard.

    Never has a man been more deserving of the title ‘silver fox’, but Tracy could hardly appreciate the stud before her.

    Thanks, she mumbled, settling down at the wedding party’s table. She crossed her legs under the cream tablecloth, fidgeting with the hem of her dress. The silky lavender dresses the bridesmaids had agreed upon were far too short and airy for Tracy’s liking.

    James would never approve.

    She cringed at the invasive thought, ashamed that she still secretly sought his approval.

    All around her, wedding guests enjoyed their post-ceremony glow.
