Foreword

Award,
Golden Book awards 2023
It gives me immense pleasure to write foreword for my author friend R. Chaitanya. We met at an Award function for our respective awards. I received Author the year 2023 award.
Her book The Cursed Curves
is influenced by actual events. The title is self explanatory. It deals with body shaming and how it stretches so far that Naina, the protagonist ends up in an ICU. The author has chosen a trending topic, handled the mentality and feelings of Naina like a seasoned author.
Women are under the radar ever since they are born. It is important to teach the girl child to see herself from her own lens. The problem starts when she starts to see herself from society’s lens and forgets that she is a complete, powerful wholesome soul. Women are considered as objects of desire and weighed in terms of color, weight and height. Every girl faces these challenges. Those who are obese are more often at the receiving end. There are numerous Naina’s in our world. Many give in to body shaming and at times end their lives.
The Idea of perfect body shape is deeply ingrained in our patriarchal society. One needs to explore as there are many races where an obese lady is considered beautiful. Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. The focus should be on maintaining an ideal weight as it is good for heart and health and never for other people. The choice should be for hers. We should do our best to raise our daughters in a healthy, non judgmental, unconditional and positive environment. This is a satire on the unattainable false beauty standards. As this directly harms the mental health besides physical.
Social reforms have taken centuries. Naina is one reformer who initially bows down to pressures. Near death experiences and care by Dr. Matthew helps in finding her lost confidence. Enjoy Naina’s journey along with Rakhi, Dr. Matthew and Arnav.
I wish the author good luck and best wishes for her book. Keep Loving and keep caring, Keep reading, and keep sharing.
Love.

Preface
The book The Cursed Curves
is influenced by actual events. It promotes the idea of body positivity and is based on body shaming. Naina, the protagonist, is a 90 kg girl who is 22 years old. Because of her body-shaming, she is going through the hardest period of her life. She feels suffocated, lonely, and very frustrated. The height of her frustrated state can be better understood through her own words:-
I feel that my identity is lost in kilograms and inches. People don’t remember me as Naina, they Identify me as ‘that fat girl’ I just feel like killing myself. People make comments about my body and it’s really getting on me. Earlier problem was from others but now I don’t feel good about myself. Why am I not like other girls? Nobody treats me like an ordinary girl. I have lost my identity as a human being. But how can I feel better about myself? I feel inferior when I see girls with excellent figures. Their slim ,trim and toned bodies tease me very badly. When I see girls of my age buying sexy dresses, high heels, short dresses, I feel like crying aloud. No boy ever looks at me, They don’t even treat me like a girl. My weight has eaten me up.
The book provides a truthful account of her harrowing romantic love story. She takes hazardous quick-fixes to reduce her weight at a rapid speed and she ends up in the ICU in a terrible state. Naina, who is deeply distressed, seeks solace in her mother’s lap and Dr. Matthew’s treatment.
The novel is a satire on the unattainable false beauty standards of weight, form, colour and shape that society has established. Nobody has a right to pressurise or demand that another person should change their physical size or shape to suit their personal preferences. It is not appropriate nor respectful. Regardless of body type or size, everyone has the right to feel at ease and confident in their own flesh. The mental health and wellbeing of a person may be seriously harmed by body shaming and weight bias. In order to create a culture where everyone is appreciated and respected, regardless of their body type or size, it is imperative to spread the message of body positivity and acceptance.
Shattered and sick Naina
