    Chapter 1

    A Guy Named King

Once upon a time, there was a boy named King. He was the pride and joy of his parents. King was not a king, nor a royal descendant. Even though he was not a real king, his family treated him like one.

His parents never allowed him to do any chores, simply because he was born a boy — the golden boy. All his sisters had to do the chores for him. His main duty was to have fun and play. Back in first grade, he was all about playing — maybe a bit too much. King ended up flunking the grade and had to do it all over again.

King grew up to be a selfish person. As he became an adult, one day, his mother asked him, King, would run an errand for me?

King simply replied, No, I don’t want to.

His mother then said, Oh, don’t worry about it. I’ll ask your sister.

Because of this characteristic, King was not popular among girls. As his friends got married, one by one, he was left out, single for ages. After many long years, King finally met a woman named Margie. King did not love Margie, but because all his friends had gotten married, he thought it was appropriate to get married as well.

After getting married, King complained to his mother that his wife was asking him to help with the house chores. So, his mother phoned King’s wife, saying, Margie, please do not ask King to do any chores at home. Those are for you to do.

A year later, King had a son. He never cared to hold or help take care of the baby. Then two years later, King had a daughter and did the same. To King, the children were an annoyance.

When the kids were young, King told them to never disturb him at home. His time at home was for him alone, as he worked the entire day to hand over his paycheck to the family.

One day, King lost his job but was too proud to ask around for a new one. Besides being selfish, he was also a snob. Though not from a rich family, he carried himself like royalty. For seven years, he did not work.

Being uneducated, King’s wife did what she could do to stay afloat. His wife started selling sweets to support the family, which embarrassed him. His wife only slept a few hours each night, and King would not help her. Moreover, his siblings looked down on Margie, and because of her effort, King hid from the public. As he got poorer and lost his car, he refused to take buses. He spent the little money the family had on taxis and cigarettes, even as they struggled to afford
