A Match Made in Battle - Peter Favour

    PROLOGUE

Mgbidi is a small kingdom that has defended herself from it's inception. Because it was taken by their then savior and super human who the people decided to crown king.

After death he became a revered legend, and his linage by the act of gene possessed his super powers, because of what great kings they always had, the kingdom thrived until the days of igwe ezenwa. Who did not have these super powers at all. He was infact a coward.

Ozara on the other hand is a lot bigger than mgbidi and is even more recognized. Many times they have fought to regain their land that lay on the suburb (ohaapu) but have found it near impossible, as mostly the people of mgbidi reside there.

But when the king onwamba of ozara discovered that the king ezenwa of mgbidi did not possess the strength of his fore fathers, and that he was infact weak and rumored to be impotent. He decided to raise the ugly head of war yet again, never really giving up on ohaapu and he shared this strong zeal with his son, prince chuka, who is a trained warrior and quite an expert in battle.

But kamara, the kings secret child was growing and fortunately possessed the powers of her forefathers… even though she is a girl. However all she wanted was for the wars to end as she preferred peace, yet she discovered that even peace must be fought for in the face of battle.

This is the beginning of a match made in battle and in the sequel, the two kingdoms find themselves becoming one.

    CHAPTER 1

After training, Kamara met the king as usual at the secret chamber, where she usually got rid of her mask. You do not know what you are little girl, I do. In addition, I am telling you Kamara as king and not just your uncle, this one has to stop, you hear me? It is not for the world to see, you must hide it, just leave, pretend to be like everybody else. That can’t be too hard… it’s exactly what you’ve done all your life, besides Iwill fund yours and your sisters education and give your father the farm, just leave the military, you can’t let anyone notice this. Only I know the implications of your ability, as only i should know the king finished, with desperation boldly written on his older face. Do you see me as a threat your highness? she asked holding back a smile but not the smirk that played on her tender face, and there was silence as the king held gaze with her for a moment before he spoke you, my child, can not be stopped, the whole military will agree with me on that if they knew you where the mask man but I just do not want you there ever again he shook his head, wiggling his index finger both gestures in disagreement as he continued without catching his breath. You are a princess and as such, you will attend the academy like your cousin sisters and live a normal life and none of your beloved family will have to know the depth of this madness, I have seen you do it, you can manage out there and we both know it, you just cant let people see who you are, and to archive this you have to leave the military and stop fight… but she had had enough, she cut him short half way as he seemed to want to say more but swallowed hard instead listening intently to her. "Igwe may your days be long…, of course you will live long considering you don’t go to war.

I asked, do you see me as a threat your highness…? she raised her chin, meeting his gaze. for her superpowers, she looked incredibly ordinary, like any normal twelve year old girl, but the vessel only looked too small for its content. I don’t know if we can assume you’re scared of me, but i can assure you one thing, I’m scared of you too… she continued without flinching, only Kamara could show such audacity with the king, though she was a lot more polite than that to him in public, which he was grateful for. She was just like everyone else outside the military headquarters it is like the case of snakes and human beings she continued, we are scared of each other, one of us thinks if I do not hurt the other first the other will hurt me. But you and I can choose a better fate, I mean we could both end up in one piece if we don’t cross each others path or we could simply avoid each other and try to not meet. In a nutshell, stay out of each others business she reveled in times like this when he had no choice. It’s very simple, I wonder why you choose to make it appear so complicated she tilted her head to the side, their identical honey brown eyes locked and she looked away tilting her head slightly to the other side she placed both her hands on both sides of her waist, and as the king opened his mouth to say something, she stopped him impatiently with her own words Don’t threaten me your highness, you can not plot your way around this one, I’m here to stay, just do what must be done… she paused to take a breath and reach for her water bottle and don’t you worry, nobody knows our big secrets yet, although i fail to understand why you hide it so much, considering my grandfather and great-grandfather and all my ancestors before you had the same genetic superiority, I know you will give birth to the true one but that doesn’t make me an abomination, its hereditary and we could simply explain it as inherited, but then, you’re king and unfortunately you think am an abomination! And now I have to do all in my supernatural powers according to you to hide our little secret" she gulped the water and wiped her mouth to continue since the king was too stunned to speak.

    CHAPTER 2

Well, unlike you think, I get it… it’s been like this forever, I’ve had the extra sharp senses since I turned one and I haven’t spilled our secret yet. They just think am brilliant, which is excellent on my own part but youre not convinced Igwe knowing you, you still feel very insecure, you want to pull me out of the military to ensure I’m not discovered? well you don’t have to go that regrettable extra mile your highness, I beat 12 people this morning trying to train them, call it thirteen ’coz I took a miscalculated swing and hit the commander, he is also unconscious and you call them military men? well at least now we know better, but I cant and I won’t let you ruin this community, I have started fighting already and there is no turning back your highness… like my father would say, concentrate on what you do and finish what you start" and at that, the king snorted, but said nothing.

So Igwe you will give Osondu the farm and I will attend the princess academy and live a normal life as you wish but not on my watch will you pull me out of the military, I just got in, besides am 12 years old your highness I can keep a secret she seemed to conclude, looking at the king with unyielding glance that spoke her resolve, the king took a deep breath and exhaled. He was always decorated in heavy attires and sometimes, Kamara felt sorry for the routine that is his life so how do you plan to do it he asked cautiously narrowing his eyes to peer at her and she found it amusing. don’t look at me like that your highness, am already scared of you, you don’t even have to try that hard she took a step backwards raising both hands in the air in mock surrender while still facing him, she brought down her hands and folded them on her stomach, getting serious again. you can pay them a little extra for an extraordinary student and they wont worry about me whenever I have to leave their cute little school for serious business she eyed him up and down look at you, you lack protection if I do say so myself, I should be your personal body guard but you wish I didn’t exist she made a tsk sound, knowing how much sarcasm she exuded, I have competent men Kamara you like to talk down on them but you see only a few of them he defended standing up from where he had been sitting. Oh can it get any better than what I saw back there this morning? your highness, not even once did their hits get me all those men, you saw it yourself, you know am not bragging she spoke with enthusiasm, That is because you and i know you have powers so it’s no big deal and you know it he argued, You’re wrong uncle its big deal, that i can remember any thing I see, that I am many times faster on foot and in reflex than machines, that I can handle any riffle and that my fist can break this wall she said, flinging one arm towards the wall and returning it to the position on her stomach and he knew she could do all that she had said and much, much more. he had been witnessing her extraordinary strength firsthand since the girl turned 10 years and she would stubbornly train with new recruits but the training soon became no use as Kamara became swift with the sword and very powerful, with special abilities that she hid, like suspending herself for up to an hour in the air and using her mind to move things that would never move otherwise. But she was too young, the king knew she was the millennial offspring, but he didn’t exactly know how to tell the people about his affair years ago with Chioma, that resulted in Kamara. Just hide it as much as you possibly can he chipped in as the thought crossed his mind does that mean I’m still in the military? she raised an eyebrow, giving him the questioning look as she proceeded to the table overflowing with fresh fruits of all kinds, then as an afterthought, she used her force to bring the apple by air to herself, still halfway she grabbed the apple that dangled in the air and dug her teeth into it. if anyone else was present, Kamara would have walked down to the table, so as not to freak them out, but nothing she ever did surprised the king and he seemed to know her powers so well you don’t care what i say anyways do you? The king turned away from her Actually, i do… she responded making the crunching sound from her mouth grow louder. Then after that, apart from the faint sound, there was silence. she broke the silence, don’t worry your highness I won’t let the cat out, am locking it up and throwing the keys into an ocean she took another large bite, grinning from ear to ear. no i want you to kill the cat the king teased, although he was himself unamused. I’m just a fighter, your highness. not a cold blooded murderer and I’m definitely not a traitor so you can go to sleep peacefully knowing that my lips only say so much to the king she adopted a serious look no one else. she assured him.

    CHAPTER 3

You’ve been nowhere to be found since 8 in the morning Kamara where did you spend the whole day? her fathers deep voice held her back and she tensed, she had been at the border all day, had gotten rid of her mask as usual at the safe cave, where the secret chamber was and headed back home where she now was, standing under the scrutinizing gaze of her father. um… I thought I told Uli I wanted to go study with my friends she lied Yes you did but when we called all your friends, each of them said you where with them and none of them could hand over the phone to you, so its either you have clones or they all lied to cover up for you and I believe it was the latter… there was silence you may want to talk about where you’ve been child, you cant be free to make such moves at this age… you’re only 13 and there’s no way I’m letting you get away with sneaking out of the house ok?… you know all i need is for you to tell me where you’ve been and who you’ve been with err… dad you know I… its just that I made new friends what’s so wrong about that i wont get in any trouble she lied smoothly to her overprotective father whom she always so easily deceived… Well you have to be very careful, I’d really prefer it if you just show them to me first before visiting them but you’re too stubborn and we’ve been through this topic many times yet somehow you manage to do the same thing over and over again he chastised before he pulled her closer with his right hand searching for her eyes but she kept them firmly glued to the ground. holding her chin he gently raised her head so their eyes where forced to meet, it was gestures like this that reassured Kamara that she belonged here, she was genuinely happy with her life, she wouldn’t change a thing. Her father patted her head as the palace guard he had earlier sent for arrived, still, am not tired of meeting your good friends so invite your new friend over for dinner tomorrow he boomed, walking up to one of the guard who was already making his way with purposeful strides in his direction too and she took it as her cue to go to her room, her very own kingdom and palace.

Her father has been battling pulmonary disease ever since she knew her environment, although some days where better than the others and she wished he never had to worry for the rest of his life and that was why she was keeping her secrets from him, not because of her uncle, the man might as well become second in comand after her but she didn’t need any more power, it was sure to detach her from her family. She needed to protect her family and there her father was worried sick over her when she needed to worry about him. His worried eyes where a darker shade of brown, same shade with Ulimmas own and mere looking at them anyone could tell Osondu and Ulimma were father and daughter while Kamara’s voice was clearly influenced by his deep bass voice. Although her own eyes sadly looked identical to her uncles own and she hated that fact, even their brows were identically full. One would think she was his daughter. She briefly looked back and noticed that her father had indulged the guard in a somewhat serious discussion, she was tempted to pay attention but she wanted to truly look surprised if he plans to surprise her, it helps to not know what’s going on, but she couldn’t help it, best she could do was pretend she didn’t know and it worked 100% of the time. Right now, all she wanted to do was retire, besides she had a strong feeling it was about the farm so she already knew, in fact, she was the mastermind. Moreover, she had other worries now, like finding someone to introduce to her father as her new study buddy as per usual because knowing her father, the man would not let it slide.

    CHAPTER 4

Kamara didn’t have friends because she was only using them, she had already reconciled with the fact that she had no friends. they all just play along because she was nice to them and all, she couldn’t wait to go to the academy, then no one would even know when she comes and goes as the king has promised, and she found herself getting excited about the academy and even talking about it often, she couldn’t wait to turn 14, and for once, her age made all the difference in her life. Then one day when Kamara had turned fourteen, their parents went on a one week vacation, which meant they had the whole wing to themselves, there was just so much peace and quiet right now in the kingdom and she was absorbing it, she knew how the innocent kids suffered out there whenever the men on the thrones go crazy and wish to war, she would give anything to make sure it never happens again. Even though their parents where very protective of her and her sisters she knew they still weren’t safe with the agitation from the rival kingdom and no one knows if they decided to attack the palace to scare the toothless bulldog again. are you sure you don’t want to tell me anything Kamara Uli pressed its nothing, am anxious about the academy that’s all Kamara responded, feigning interest. as they sat on opposite sides of the south wing dinning table, their parents had gone on a short trip to Europe, so they had the etire south wing to themselves and they bothered less with normal routine what about you, do you want to tell me why you’re fasting? Kamara changed the topic just because she could, besides, nothing excited her more than having all the time she wanted in the army and not worrying about getting in any trouble, and the realization that she would be in control for once. she loved it all and it almost made her giddy, but just like many other facts, she could not share this with Uli because… well because she couldn’t. People always guessed she had secret powers, including her family, but it was always an oblivious observation or endearment and she always imagined her powers leaving her if it became no longer secret, even though the king and one of the mgbidi army already know.

Though it can be dismissed as her mere imagination, she still did not know why the king wanted her to keep it secret so badly that he would do literally anything to make her comply. however she thought about it, it was easier and safer to not tell, Are you even listening? Uli snapped at her elder sister, bringing her back to reality, I said I’m not fasting she repeated, slightly impatient, ok then why are you starving? Kamara rephrased her question and Uli couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her lips making Kamara to smile I’m fat Kamara I don’t even eat as much as you do, you’re a glutton yet you have the body of a model, but look at me she complained, pouting her lips as usual

I’m younger, I’m supposed to look younger but i don’t, it looks like am the one whose 14 while you’re 12 she sadly implied "first off, I don’t look like am 12 and anyone who sees how much you pout will be able
